So, I’m watching the NL Wild Card game, and ESPN is doing this thing with the audio where they boost the on-field audio just as the pitched ball gets to the plate. They do this, I assume, to catch a nice loud crack of the bat on the ball. But it’s so damned annoying to listen to. The audio is comfortable until one moment when IT BOUNCES TO 11 and then back down. Pitch after pitch after pich. Freaking headache-inducing. I can’t believe the director thinks this is good audio design.

I’ve never seen that in a game, but this isn’t the first time I’ve noticed this audio thing.
