So my (2.2) MBP's backlight stopped working while I was on vacation and I took it to the Apple Store. They quickly agreed to give me a new display.

Picked up the repaired machine today, checked it in the store, everything worked great. Took it home, turned it back on: blackness. The display works, computer runs without any obvious errors, except the complete and total lack of backlighting making the display useless.

Rebooting/hard rebooting/pram zapping/smc resetting all have no effect.

Any ideas?

I just figured I'd see if somebody said "oh, you can fix that by installing this old DLL" or whatever while I was waiting for my Apple Store appointment.

Apple has it now. We'll see if they do better this time.

DLL??
Are you sure your Windows machine isn't acting up?

Yes, I'm pretty sure it's not my Windows box. Macs have DLLs too, they just use a different extension.

End result:
661-4340 - $1,188.00 (motherboard?)
922-8040 - $75.00 (sound card?)
661-4343 - $703.00 (display?)
First Repair - $85.00
Second Repair - $135.00

For a grand total of "I am glad it was all under warranty."

Backlight problems are caused by one of the following:

Inverter;
Sleep switch;
Backlight(LCD);
Logic Board;

Thats roughly the order of most to least likely.
Your part numbers are correct, though the sound board also has DC-in and USB I think.Its usually referred to as the left I/O board.
It is highly unlikely the had to replace all of those parts to fix the issue. If the swapped out one and it didn't fix it, they should really have returned it as a good part and then tried another.
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....
