i have a 1.5TB external western digital element. is there a usb to ethernet adapter or something that i can get to add network capability to the drive ? something thats like a print server except for drives.

You are looking for something like a NAS (Network Attached Storage) USB adapter.

E.g. Review: Addonics USB NAS adapter

I don't have any experience with those.
If you google "NAS USB ethernet adapter", you'll get tons of hits.

Maybe somebody here can recommend a specific product.

that is EXACTLY what im looking for. but that specific one only supports FAT32. same with a patriot one i found on ncix. anything out there that supports NTFS ?

Given that MS does not publish the full NTFS standard (so consequently, every single non-Microsoft implementation of NTFS is reverse-engineered), I can't see many manufacturers using it. I'd expect most to use FAT32 (which sucks), or ext3 from the Linux world, which is good.
