Ink is an optional feature that only gets installed if you have a graphics tablet. At least, that's what I heard. Maybe the custom install option of Mac OS X finally allows us to specify what we want?
In vino veritas.

Who says that this is real? That ipod icon looks like hell.

After looking closely at the screenshot, there is now an 'Screen Effects' pane under personal.

Does this mean full control over added extras to speed things up?
In vino veritas.

it would be nice if you include the function for some of the "new" comtrol panels ... such as Video ... Disks ... Photography ...

"My Accounts" sounds very windows-ish. I don't like it.

The iPod icon is the same one used now when it is mounted.

WTF is screen effects?

A more accurate name for screen-savers.

They don't actually save your screen anymore - they used to be called screen-savers when we only had mono screens. If you left your Mac Plus on too long the menubar would begin to burn away the phosphor. You could even see the wear when the machines were off!

Screen-savers would come on after a period of inactivity and change what was on the screen (so that different areas of the screen got hammered.)

My Account is good. I'm sure it lets users change their password, etc. It didn't make since to people to go to Users for just their own account. It works.

If you install a 3rd party app to get the "Other" section, will that even fit on the 800x600 iBook's screen?

I believe it was mentioned in the keynote that only computers with a display resolution of 1024 x 768 or above can take advantage of the advanced features of "System Preferences Extreme".

Does spymac have any credibility? Haven't they posted all sorts of obvious fakes in the past? Does anyone remember the iWalk?

duh! it scrolls. You imagine that Apple didnt think of that?

Here's the scenario: for some reason your mac starts up with the wrong monitor resolution, 640x480, but because the System Prefs window is too big it wont load, so you cant get to the Monitors panel to change the resolution.

ever noticed how the System Prefs is only 595 pixels wide?, thats so that it will fit on the smallest possible monitor size.

If you look in the similar thread (with the fuzzy picture from the video of the keynote) there is a pane in the 'Other' part, which could well be Inkwell.

Why do you think it is "F A K E"? Did you see the news.com video of the inkwell demonstration? The new digital hub row is in plain site in the demonstration. All of the icons look accurate. There were 3000 copies of the damned thing released yesterday, it's not too hard to believe that those people would have installed Jaguar on their spiffy laptops and sent anonymous screenshots to rumor sites.

Despite SpyMac's ...erm... "spotty history", it very well could be a real screenshot. Keep in mind that people are playing with developmental version of an OS -- there will be rough edges, and things will change before it is actually released.

Here is something interesting, though. Here's part of a Finder window from Apple's web site. Note the rounded search field:

Now have a look at the Finder image from SpyMac's web site. The search field is rectangular. Either the version SpyMac's screenshot is from is different than what Apple is showing (certainly possible) or the SpyMac screenshot is fabricated:

My guess is that we're just seeing the moving target that is developmental verions of software. I'm sure conspiracy theorists may disagree, though...

Two things I see.

1) The Dock no longer has horizontal lines though it.
2) The Search field in the finder is Square when it is rounded in the Apple screenshots.

Uh-oh. Here they come.

It's interesting... (unless someone's using Transparent Dock) Apple removed the lines from the Dock.

I did the same about 2 months ago, as well as a little less opaque, and it's made the Dock much better.

I can almost promise you it is not a fake, but I will tell you right now there will be changes to what you see above. Remember when Mac OS X was first announced at Macworld SF? The Developer Preview that was seeded three months later looked nothing like what Steve was demoing off. When Macworld SF 2001 came around they were show a more complete version of Mac OS X but internally there were a lot of changes. There are several reasons why they do this.

I would really hope Inkwell is not an optional install on the CD because if we chose to get a tablet in the future, with the current Installer, that would mean reinstalling the whole OS!

I would guess they mean the position of the file name in the Finder (under or to the right of the icon).

The wording would lead me to believe the Jaguar Finder will not feature real 'labels'.

My first thought was that it meant the orientation of an icon's text label on the Desktop or in icon view.
I think displaying the label on the right instead of below would not be very efficient, but I can't think
what else it might refer to.

classic? Who still uses that?

and theres two or three HDs on the computer, the one we are looking at is simply called "Mac OS X" so I don't think classic will be on that drive.

Maybe there's another mistake or difference between old and new build:

From Apple.com/MacOSX:

From SpyMac.com

Notice the position align? Original one is middle while spymac one is on the right. It's no big deal but I'm just curious

um, for a sec thought they might be real, but then suddenly I noticed the iChat icon....

Totally different from the Apple.com version.

At this point here are too many fishy things about the image.

If nothing else someone did a lot of installing and customization before screen shot was taken @ 4:27pm according to -i

In 2 days when the devs get home then we will know for sure...

The "label" view option refers to the window's application badge in the Dock's minimized windows. In the Apple screenie, it's on the bottom (dumb place for it IMO), and in the SpyMac image, it's on the (bottom) right.

Now that's assuming these images are real...

Hmmmn. Then shouldn't the Spymac shot have the rasio button:
Label --> Right checked

They have "center" checked, yet that is not what the dock reflects

True, true. I guess they (or whoever sent them the images) made composite images like Apple did, right? Right?! But they didn't "doctor" them.

let me propose this.

the basic concept for the icon is the same (between the spymac and www.apple.com/macosx/ iChat icons). However, what if its like the Adium icon, one icon while offline and another one while you're online...

thats a possibility.

That 'Mac OS X' window is the 'Show View Options' for the Mac OS X drive...not the dock.

If it affects the badge on minimized windows, why the hell is it in the Finder's preferences? It should be in the Dock's pref pane.

Whatever happened to being able to move minimized windows and throwing them to the side of the screen? That was cool as hell, though nearly useless.

My guess is that there are a few other UI elements that Apple hasn't told us about. WWDC isn't necessarily the place for it and it's not really necessary for devs to see all the little UI changes. I'm guessing we'll see more at MWNY and devs will be getting regular updates now. They called it pre-alpha for a reason: not all the features are set or present. The ones they showed are mostly low-level stuff that's definite or entire apps (iChat and Sherlock) that are sure to make the cut.

hahaha

OH MAN!
Why on earth would the digital hub thing go into the system prefs, and why use Image capture's icon insetad of anothe,r nad yet keep iDVD's icon in there, plus have an iPod for music instead of the iTunes icon, no icon for any sorta DV settins, if they're gona be stupid enough to do a digital hub part, they'd include the first iApp.

Not to mention, uhh... cough obvious fraud.
If you look at the search thing on apple's site compared to the search thing on that, they're differnt.
