Can you play games at 1024X768 withough pixel doubling (say with bars at either side of the display ala PB) on a 17" FP iMac?

Short answer: yes.
Long answer: some games may reset the monitor to 640x480, and it seems that my iMac sometimes wants to stretch it all the way out to fill the screen (you can have 1024x768 at both stretched and regular aspect ratio from the Displays System Pref).
So... yes

Also, games based on the Quake 3 engine allow for the proper aspect ratio and resolution. There are some options in the config file that allow you to specify custom resolution.

a. Open the console by pushing the tilde '~' key.
b. Enter the following at the console prompt:

c. Press the Enter key.
d. Push the tilde '~' key again to close the console.

I like to play Diablo 2. It runs at 800x600 resolution. If I get a 17" iMac, will the game play with everything stretched out? I'd rather have the black bars on the sides.
