Will that cause any problems? I read in a Macworld article that re-naming your Macintosh HD could cause problems down the road...

Renaming is no problem, but special charakters in hd name like the apple or even a space can cause troubles

Then why is it called "Macintosh HD" (note the space) by default?

I think he meant 'space' as the only entry so no name appears.....

What is it with 'minimalist' Europeans
and boring desktop submissions...
"Heir wolfgang, looky whot I've
done tis another nothing"
Split this monumental thread up
into two - one for wallpapers and
the this one for ( real custom )
Customized screenshot pics.

WTF is your problem? Seriously. In every other reply you make on this board you're critisising someone and being rude in general.
This is how I like my desktop. If you're into something else, it's all good, but what does it matter to you how I have mine set up?
Oh, and this little 'outburst' wasn't just for this post. You been acting like an ass in several other threads I've read here.
And you won't find anyone in Sweden named Wolfgang, unless he's like a German immigrant or something

I'm wondering... Is benign=catsank?
catsank vanished at some point from the MacNN forums..
Benign appeared recently and their overall "posting style" look a lot alike.. eventhough catsank could be very funny sometimes..
just wondering..

I was wondering the same thing a couple days ago I'm now pretty sure they are one and the same. Didn't benign post that Titanic sinking picture in one of the threads some time ago? I remember catsank using that way earlier. And I was starting to hope that these forums can go on without another smart ass ...

I used to like catsank comments actually, well at least some. So begnin/catsank, please a bit more of humour like you used to post...

I guess, but wouldn't it be better if everyone could just show respect towards each other?
Sorry for taking it up in this thread anyway, I realize it's for desktop postings and not bickering, I just got really annoyed

Even Apple isnt perfect
There was a iTunes version which deleted the entire Home folder if the hd name had a space in it,
I think its because different apps uses different methodes to find/write files, for example the terminal uses / for a path, this means / wouldnt be allowed in file names but the finder uses : like every app should do on the mac in os 9 and below every app did that but since os x is a unix system which always uses / you get some troubles, and if a file name contains a space you have to write a \ in the terminal so it knows this is not an extra command but still the file name.
I will not give you a 100% gurantee that everything is correct but I will give a 99% one
I hope you understand everything because english isnt my first language.

Hold it right there cowboy, it was just a question!
And as for the benign thing. Like digitaljames said, the ignore feature works perfectly.
And I love "boring screenshots" but that might be due to the fact that I live close to zzee germans.

mhm Im german but I dont like "boring screenshots" but everyone should post their screenshots some like it this way, others like it the other way, but that Im one of the others doesnt mean that I have a problem (or even hate) the others (now its getting confusing ) But I have a problem with guys who always say "oh this screenshot is boring dont post those screenshots again!" If you say it one time its ok everyone who wants to know that knows it now but post it that often is just going on the nerves of everyone (I dont mean you mrfrost with this)
I think I write too much
I posted a screenshot some months ago too but no one liked it

simplicity and minimalism produce elegance. Its like modern art/furniture. If you like your desktop to be clean, minimalistic, and modern, it's likely that your room, house, dorm or whatever, will run parallel to that.
So if you like f*cked up desktops with sh*t all over the place, there's a chance that your house may look exactly the same!
I respect people's opinions and their tastes.
In my opinion, minimalism is very cool.

speaking of minimalism...
back in black
dsx theme (shapeshifter)
openmenu (customizable contextual menus)
dockblock (to disable the dock)
10.3.2...15 minutes and no problems!
(a record, compared to 10.2.8... )

dockblock rocks, tho...i can disable the dock when i want to work fullscreen...

That's true for me anyway... I don't like having a bunch of crap laying around my room, and it's the same for my digital desktop.

That 'crap' is the only thing that makes
your room or digital desktop unique to
you - A minimalist's world is a world without
texture - bland and devoid of personality.
Fascists have always made the best
minimalist's lovers.
This thread is to show off your GUI
enhancements, How you make your
'out of the box uniform mac' into your
own creation, possibly unique computing
experience - just showing a new desktop
pic every couple of weeks is so uncreative
( So lacking in any customizational thought) as
to deserve to be forever stuck in a windowed
dominated world - a fascists world.
That no-one hacks their system in ever new
and unique ways anymore is very sad.

maybe...lighten up? how we each use our mac IS what makes life interesting. i LIKE a mimimalist desktop, i like space...not sure where fascism fits into that.
use shapeshifter, openmenu, ucontrol, mighty mouse, dockblock, imote, etc to customize my user experience, the most important part of using a computer.
by dictating what is or isn't acceptable...aren't you guilty of fascism yourself?
let everyone have fun their own way; even you could be enjoying this.

Fascism.. ? Uh... Ok. Someone has bigger issues.
By 'crap' I meant 'clutter', as in 'useless junk'. I have my Mac, pencils, paper, my DVD collection and a number of posters bascially in my room other than the furniture. That's enough for me, ya dig?
My Mac is customized. Not for anyone else to like it, but for me to do so. I have a theme with a matching desktop and matching icons, and a few extra apps (like Another Launcher, On My Command etc) which is enough for me. I don't need 100 different Konfab widgets and such cluttering up my desktop.
And like fisherKing said, by dictating how others should live their life (digital and not), doesn't that make you a form of fascist?
Lighten up and let people have their own tastes.
BTW, it would be fun to see how your desktop looks. It must truly be a thing of wonder, seeing as how you can tell everyone else what to do with theirs.

Sure you can:
The app with the VU Meters is MacAmp Lite X and it cannot be shared by another app but as far as I remember AudioHijack also has the same VU meters and then you can share it with every other app I think!
edit:
I forgot - if you use my desktop then please post a screenshot!

Do you have metallifizer or w/e installed to turn finder's metal off? If you do, try turning it off, or excluding the finder.
