Apple Now Has 7.8-8.5% of U.S. Market Share

"Apple Computer again cracked the top three in U.S. PC sales for the second quarter, according to surveys released Wednesday by both Gartner and IDC.

Worldwide, Apple didn't make the top five PC vendors, according to both firms. But within the U.S., IDC estimated that Apple finished in a virtual dead heat with Acer for third place, just 2,000 units behind the Asian PC maker. Gartner, meanwhile, said that Apple took the third-place spot outright, topping Acer by 65,000 PCs sold."

I have to admit that the Intel defection was worth it. . . .

It's interesting that Dell has taken a lot of share away from HP. When HP bought Compaq they had the highest combined market share.

Acer = Acer, Gateway, eMachines, Packard Bell

Essentially, Acer owns all the computer brands that you should not buy. Convenient.

It's difficult to be a competitive company when your two main suppliers 1) can't supply you with the numbers of chips you need and 2) can't keep up with the technology of other chip makers.
The era of anthropomorphizing hardware is over.
