I've got a PowerCenter Pro 240 running OS 9.04 with a MacTell G3 card and an HP DeskWriter 550C. The problem is everytime I try to print the chooser keeps switching the printer to the modem port and sending the data to the modem and not the printer. I've selected the printer port in the chooser, the modem control panel has the modem port selected and the modem works fine. Any ideas?

Does this problem happen at every cold start-up?
Does it exist on a warm re-start?
If only happens on cold startup, then you probably have a nearly-dead PRAM Battery.
Just an idea.

Try this:
If you're not using AppleTalk, check the AppleTalk control panel, turn AppleTalk off and set "connect via" to remote only.
This stops random switching and "serial port in use" messages for me.
I don't know why. It's voodoo, but these things are often AppleTalk related.
