What kind of stereo do you own?
I own a Sony "executive" stereo (I believe that is what you call them). It is silver with a vertical loading cd tray and is complemented by wooden speakers. Nothing special, but it has pretty good sound quality. What kind do you have?

The only good thing about them is that they LOOK good. They sound so so and are hard to use. Very dated technology in the guts of em.

I just want an iPod 40gb which I can tap into my surround sound speakers with wirelessly. Is that too much to ask? I'm no audiophile so if it can be plugged into some nice headphones (Cans) then I'd be really happy.
O&F? I don't need that, just put it up cause I heard the name and it is $$$.

oh yeah and i forgot I also got this, a real subwoofer, flat down to 20hz @120db, paired with a BFD to get it that flat response. I enjoy it, plays loud and deep when I want to, but I try not to be a dick to the other guys in my hall.
my sig has more info and links to what i have.

My current receiver is a Sony STR-AV1020 which is connected to a pair of Cerwin-Vega AT-12. This system is about 13 years old. I bought the Sony because it has Dolby Pro Logic, 100 watts per channel, and a built in 7 band equalizer. I bought the Cerwin-Vegas because they have some good bass and they can get loud.
My Sony receiver is starting to go. The right channel goes out and you have to turn it off and back on to get it to work again. I have been looking at the NAD C320BEE amp to replace my old Sony. If anyone owns a NAD amp, do you like it?

I own a few stereo systems.
The one for the TV in the living room is a 600 watt cambridge soundworks system
The one for the TV in the bedroom is a 500 watt Koss system
The one for the bar is actually a computer speaker system made by logitech, the way I have it set up is pretty creative. I drilled the 5 speakers around a cookie can and hung it from the ceiling like a chandelier above the bar. (saves space, looks cool)
The one for my car is a 1800 watt kenwood system (lots of speakers)
The one for my computer in my office is a 30 watt (I think) 3 piece system.
I think that's all of them, I'm too lazy to post all the specs and links, and pics, sorry.

A Marantz receiver (an old one that still sounds incredible) plus some bit older speakers. On top of that, a Technics double cassette deck, my first stereo equipment worthy of the name. Then, a Sony MD deck that's barely in use. Oh, and I connect my iBook or iPod to it as well.
When I get back to Germany, I want to get new speakers.

Pioneer HTD-520
500 watts of power. DTS and 5.1 digital, 5 disc changer, really user-tunable, and when you play audio CDs it turns off the center and surrounds and doubles the wattage to the main front speakers (which are made of MDF, not plastic shite)
[no big inline images!]
It sounds AWESOME, but I do have a smaller living space. Only $132.00 on ebay. WOOT.

I have Snell speakers, a Linn turntable, a Denon receiver and assorted other components. Like many audiophiles, I used to snub my nose at the idea of a receiver until I came to my senses.
But I use my Mac and my iPod more than anything else.

An old Sony ProLogic receiver, Yamaha Subwoofer, and POS Bose 301 speakers (I plan on getting a set of Paradigm speakers soon.) in the family room. It is used mostly for home theater.
In my cars other than a XM reciever, I have factory stereos. I really see that it is pointless to upgrade such a crappy sound environment. GM cars come with some pretty good radios to begin with.
In the workshop/garage I have an old JVC "boombox". I really only listen to old classic rock and talk radio out there. Don't need the high fidelity out there.

A kenwood stereo. It was inexpensive and looks pretty nice. About the only things I use it for are the ipod and radio, however.
I'd think about replacing it but for it's price it was decently built. The speakers are cased in MDF and sound fairly decent as loud as I want them to go.. so yeah. I don't really worry about it.
My stereo and prospeakers/isub stuff is great for me. Problem is if I play my music any louder it gives me a headache anyway, and I'd rather dump money on other things

You're pretty ignorant then. Upgrading to NICE speakers powered by an extrernal 4 channel amp improves the sound A LOT. It's night and day. The factory speakers in most cars have PAPER cones, and dinky little magnets. Upgrading to some speakers with bigger magnets, more rigid chassis, and poly cones makes a big difference. Feeding them plenty of power from an external amp makes another huge difference. And an aftermarket stereo makes another huge difference. All together it sounds WAY better than any factory system, and can be done for under $500.

Linn Sondek LP12 with an Ittok II tonearm (lift removed), the Adikt needle assembly, Trampolin bottom plate, and I took the lid off.
Lingo power supply a possibility over the next year or so (I hope).
[no big inline images!]
[Edit: this was a 200 x 300 (f*cking HUGE, eh?) image of a Linn Majik-I amplifier]
can't find an image of the Linn Index speakers.
Oh, and a Cambridge audio CD5 cd player - as an afterthought ("oh yeah, might want a minimum for those twenty CDs I own...").
Edit - forgot the "why": 'cuz the Sondek turned "Hotel California" into funk. That started it all.

I notice you are still an ass.
If you'll notice I stated GM cars come with pretty good stereos to begin with. No need to upgrade. But your bias against GM will never allow you to admit that, so quit being an ass.
Both of my vehicles do not have the base system in them. I usually buy a semi-loaded package and that always comes with an upgraded stock system.
And ignorant too. You really think your little Pioneer system is putting out 500 Watts? If it really is, I bet they are nice clean watts. Idiot.

Rotel RCD-951 CD Player
Toshiba SD220E DVD Player
Denon AVR-2803 AV Amp
Monitor Audio Radius R90 (5)
MJ Acoustics Reference 100 Subwoofer
The speakers and the subwoofer are both British by design and build; one of the few things at which we still excel. When my old stereo seperate system (Arcam amp and big ugly Mission floorstanding speakers) came up for replacement a month or so ago, I ended up spending way more than anticipated on an AV system that is good with music AND home cinema. At least my wife understands!

G4ME --about time well done
you wouldnt beleive what my DAD has for a stereo!
4 DC300As,
2 D150s,
2 D75s (I have 1 75 as well)
2 VSX-2 crossovers (crown)
2 crown EQs (big and awesome)
1 crown 700 reel to reel 2 track.
Several microphones from crown and he JUST bought
4 PSA-2 amps that are freakin awesome!
they then uses this to power 6 (yes 6) Eliminator bass bins that he made himself. These can make your heart beat backwards! 2 HR90 EV horns for midrange and 4 super tweaters that weigh as much as some peoples regular speakers. Its great living close to Crown.
there is of course more, but why bother.
this is all in his LIVING ROOM! makes the neighbourhood shake. Oh and YES he is still happily married to my mom!
BTW, I've always loved your sig!

damn, I would just dream of all that hardware, almost everyday i check ebay and see what they have, i think i am addicted, its probably a good thing i have no cash to spend, i would love to snag the entire DC line, and make a custom 30U rack, with possibly a Micro Tech 2400 or two.
As for pro-sound drivers am a big fan of Selenium, all the quality of JBL but at prices I could afford, not that EV is anything to laugh at they have been around for ages. Its just something about that 4400Ti compression driver that gets me a stiffy, prob because the magnet is the same size as my tempest, tips the scale at over 26 pounds, and can be crossed so ungodly freaking LOW combine that with a nice 18 and a mid 10 you will be GOD. I have a friend who is working on a tri amped set of mains similar to what i have described with the 4400 Tis. I should swing over to his place and get some documentation

Especially since more often than not, the wattage is PMPO (peak music power output).
Which means absolutely NOTHING. At all.
Or rather, "500 watts P.M.P.O." means that your stereo will be able to produce 500 watts of sound - ONCE. And once only.
Never mind the fact that it will typically start to sound like total sht at anything over 30 watts, because the whole system will start distorting to hell...

Look, I don't care HOW big of a fan you are of a certain marque, factory stereos SUCK in comparison to even a weak aftermarket setup. The ONLY exceptions are the mazda mp3, and SONY focus. Those had pretty good stock stereos. Other than that, it sucks, and because you're a fan boy you can't realize it.
You really think your little Pioneer system is putting out 500 Watts? If it really is, I bet they are nice clean watts. Idiot.
Yes. It is. 15 watts x 2 for left and right front channels, 52 watts for center channel, 52 watts x 2 for left and right surround (rear) channels, 114 watts for subwoofer. And I don't give a **** about 'clean' watts, because like I said, I live in a small place, and I can't even turn it HALF way up without it being WAAAYYY too loud. Distortion only comes into play at high volumes, and I can't even get NEAR the upper half of the dial, so yes, it does sound quite marvelous.

Well Tempered Turntable,
Self-build 300B (Western Electric 310A from 1940's, + 300's) Mono Single Triode Tube Amps, about 3 Watt per channel... sufficient 'o).
Have to make a better picture still... (right bottom you see my "right" amp)
(Why people still buy speakers with an efficiency less than 0.001% when you can get up to 12% still puzzles me...)
