Does anybody know if an SE/30 motherboard will fit a Classic II case?
Thanks.
(I have already checked lowendmac.com, but didnot get further than the machine's external dimensions, a faint clue.)

It will fit, it's just a matter of whether any modifications you may have to make will be worth it. The ports on the back of the machine mostlikely will not match up exactly, and there might be some pieces of plastic inside the case that get in the way of the logic board.

Greetings,
Modifications, yes. The entire fan assembly inside the Classic II (it vents on the bottom) will have to be removed to allow for the longer length SE/30 logic board to slide in all the way.

Does that mean that I will have to take the fan out?
Will the then supercharged Classic/SE-30 work without the fan or will it melt?

Greetings,
Sorry for the delay there. I've been busy with work.
Yes, you will have to remove the fan assembly to put in an SE/30 logic board. Will it overheat? I don't know. It would probably depend on the length of time that the computer is left on.
About the only advice I can give you is to try to figure out a way to mount the fan somewhere else in the case and drill some holes to allow it warm air to be blown out. You'll have to do a lot of thinking and measuring before you actually do it so that the end result will be something that is acceptable to you.
Just don't get killed by the CRT and make sure that you are prepared for what will happen to your stuff if the experiment fails.
Good luck

This will not work without serious modifications to the Classic II. The power supplies for the Classic II and the SE/30 are different, the CRT's are different, and the cases are very different. The only other compact that an SE/30's motherboard will fit into is the SE.

Thanks for the heads up.
Are you talking about physical differences -which I can probably overcome- or electrical differences -in which case I am probably stuck-?
Please clarify.
Thanks

There are both physical and electrical differences involved here.
