Huh ? The Expanse too violent ?
I’m not sure why you think that.

The Expanse is one of the best sci-fi shows out there.
Unbelievably well done.

We really enjoyed the new Lost in Space.

I tried to get into the Expanse a few years ago, and it seemed humorless and zzzzz. I fell asleep each time I tried watching. But maybe I should give it another shot?

Yes! Yes! You should. I think it is the best sci-fi series in a decade. There are so many juicy characters. You will have to wait for Bobby until season 2 (a hard-core female martian space marine), but season 1 has Chrisjen Avasarala. For a taste, spend two minutes on Youtube. It doesn't spoil much of anything.

andi, while I agree with the others, The Expanse is not a comedy. If you require humor to like a show, it has a low ration. For well-done shows with generous doses of humor, try "The Good Place" or "Lucifer".

Thanks reader, I loved both those shows. I don't require humor always, but unrelentingly dark is not something I need right now. Even the Blacklist has humor - dark humor, but it's there.

The Good Place is one of the best series that has ever been made. Sopranos level great. It is light yet deep. And even though you don’t get a Disney-style “… and they lived happily ever after”-type storyline, it has a positive outlook on life through-and-through. All the characters, including the bad ones are well-developed.

^ Yup.

Turtle, I liked the Orville, to some extent. Some of the humor was a little cringey, but overall the characters were likeable and the stories engaging.

Re: The Good Life ending: You know that cool afterlife gateway in the woods built of branches? The producers said they found it there, already built. A wedding party had built it for the ceremony weeks before and left it standing. The production crew just happened upon it while scouting the location, thought it was perfect, and used it as-is.

I'm glad they didn't drag it out forever. Having to come up with an...OOPS THERE'S ANOTHER PROBLEM THE GANG HAS TO SOLVE for every season would get tiring. They told their story.

I think you summarized it nicely in your last post, too.

For me the series had a perfect ending. The last episode was just amazing and solidified my opinion that the series is Sopranos-level great.

I like the ending too.

The 4-season journey was not only fun along the way. By the end, it all looked necessary. I don't know if the writers planned the full arc from the beginning, or if they settled on it. Either way, it's excellent writing.

Fox did. Then they sat on the Firefly name, so it couldn't be used in the movie or comics. Then they did it to Whedon all over again on Dollhouse. Then cancelled Lucifer. It's kind of amazing Fox is still in business.

All of this! It really is kind of ridiculous. I realize it wasn't as popular but I was also really for their show Terra Nova. Dinosaurs, Stephen Lang, a big premise. Cancelled after the first season...

I think the guy that approves shows knows there is a market for fringe/scifi etc, but the higher ups panic when it's not an instant hit. Fringe shows need word of mouth. Actually, with todays binging, I don't even want to watch a show if it's only one season, knowing I"ll be heartbroken they yanked it.

Not to mention TSCC and even Dark Angel didn't last that long. If Jim Cameron is getting cancelled maybe there's some execs that need to be cancelled instead.

I'm guessing Disney now owns Firefly though. They still get on with Whedon right? Perhaps there's hope yet....

You're the Worst was the best! And here I thought I was the only one who watched it. Also, Better Things is fantastic television, and seems to be ignored by viewers. At least FX has let it live for four series so far.

Fox underrates lots of stuff. If it doesn't have tons of ad revenue, it's a dog. Don't even give a series a chance to settle and build an audience, just whack it if it doesn't show an immediate profit.

Kroger should have them. Mariano’s (Kroger owned) has them.

They pimp Easy Cheese on the box, but I think they pair better with some form of cold pack. Not as fun, though.

When it comes to cold pack, Merkt’s is overrated. Too much preservative aftertaste. At least with cheddar. The horseradish flavor masks it adequately.

What made me think of him was how much more closely the Rani hit that mark (heh) compared to Anthony Ainley.

Anthony Ainley wasn't bad. In particular the transition from caring father to cruel sadist showed he was a good actor.

The modern masters, with the exception of Missy, have been scene-chewing derivatives.

I liked Ainley as a kid, and you’re absolutely right he was good in Keeper of Traken, but looking back on it, he’s this Snidely Whiplash cartoon.

I was specifically thinking of the Rani, and how she’s basically the Master without being such a dork. Like Delgado, she’s far too busy being a successful supervillain to actually let the Doctor get under her skin.

Exactly. It's not as personal. Before Missy I wished they'd bring back the Rani. There used to be several renegade time lords running about.
