Amazon pulls Apple TV, Chromecast product listings from stores

Amazon has followed through with its warning from earlier this month that it would be taking down store listings for devices that do not support Amazon Prime Video, by removing devices from Apple and Google. The Apple TV and Google Chromecast no longer appear in searches on Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk, with the first result coming up for each of the products searched being Amazon's own Fire TV Stick instead.
The removal applies to both third-party retailers operating through the store as well as used goods resellers, reports Variety. When pressed by the report shortly after the warning was issued to resellers, Amazon released a statement that advised "It's important that the streaming media players we sell interact well with Prime Video in order to avoid customer confusion." Other streaming devices, such as those from Roku and game consoles, are unaffected by the move.

Despite the lack of support, both the Apple TV and Chromecast could certainly work with the service, if Amazon created apps for the platform. Google has offered software development kits for developers to add the ability to cast video or other app items to a Chromecast or other compatible devices for some time, and Apple's latest generation of Apple TV includes its own App Store that would certainly accept an app submitted by the retailer.
It is suggested in the report the removal of the two devices may in fact be a protest by Amazon against app store policies for both companies, specifically those surrounding payment for content and revenue sharing agreements, though none of the companies involved have passed comment about this.

People still buy the $40 stick because it's simple enough and the free app makes navigation faster and Prime members (of which there are many) get free movies. Any chance that Apple will pull it in response to this article?

What bothers me more is the way Amazon messes with the results of searches. 873 results for "Apple TV" and none of them having to do with the Apple TV. A legitimate result count would have been zero. This in itself shows what possibly could be considered biased or improper search results but I wonder if it even matters. This is one of the reasons why it's difficult to believe anything you search for on the web.

Amazon is probably thinking: "Hah, go read about Roku 4, at least our fans are quiet"
(Does Fire TV even use fans? Fire TV Stick doesn't even have one no?)
Honestly Amazon wants to pull the big competitors, which I still think is a selfish policy on their part. Given the throughout-the-board thumbing limitations and quality control corruption on (nearly) all the media streamers, the decision to figure out which to get, or if to upgrade, I feel has never been more confusing.
