Has anyone bought aTV Flash and used it? Does it work well? I like that it would allow me to play my .avi files on my apple tv. I currently stream my converted files to the Apple TV which works great but it would worth the $60 to not have to wait a hour to convert every movie/TV show. Also is there any kind of uninstall if I find that aTV Flash is not that great and want to convert my Apple TV to original settings.

No, it doesn't really work. Easy to install but only plays AVI and MOV not MKV and WMV - streaming is not possible. It freezes and crashes often. Too bad...

First, Applecore has stopped selling the atv flash for the moment. Something to do with the use of an infringing file in their software.

Second, you can revert the appletv back to factory settings by restoring the software. You can restore Apple TV's software from the main menu by selecting Settings > Reset Settings > Factory Restore.

I was interested in this too after Macbreak Weekly talked about. Anyone have experience with Hulu streaming?

Recently purchased aTV V3 and tried to create the flash stick. I was using Leopard and two different USB drives - one 512mb and 1 Gb. Both did not work.
Gave up and installed atvwindows on the first try.

I'm considering just taking out the HD, connecting it to my computer, and hacking its OS that way.

However, as a fix to the OP's conversion issues, I recommend using iSquint. I set movies or hour-long TV episodes on high-quality conversion and it takes only a few minutes per file (longer for movies) using my MBP C2D 2.0 GHz. Not sure what Mac hardware you're working with.

Did you download one of their images, or did you buy their memory stick with the image already installed?

Just download the patchstick from awkwardtv. It's easy as pie.

Sure, downloading, but getting it to work? Did you get it to work from Leopard?

Do you need a Tiger install DVD? I thought that was required for Flash support, but I may be wrong.

I got atvwindows (now atvpatch) to install - it is an image that is just placed onto the USB drive using windows software they furnish.
Apple Core supplies a link to the Tiger image that it needs to create their aTV Flash 3.0 drive but it didn't work when I tried it from Leopard.

Same issue here.

Downloaded multiple patchstick versions yesterday, even from torrents, got none of them to work.

I'm on Leopard.

If I understand correctly, most patchstick versions require OS 10.4 because they copy certain files from the OS to the patchstick. Apparently, none made a script for Leopard yet.

I think I'm going to try the Windows patchstick versions found on torrents. That way, it shouldn't matter what OS X you have installed.

Darn it, why does this have to be so complicated

Where did you get that atvpatch from ?

What version of AppleTV does it patch ? The latest 2.0.2 ?

I'm feeling your frustration. It seems like by now someone should have developed a way to upload a picture and take advantage of a tiff exploit or something else, ala some of the early iPhone jailbreaks.

I'm inclined to remove the HD and make any changes that way.

From all that I read, the hack (or is it AppleTV ?) seems to be very sensitive to USB sticks. Some sticks won't ever work, some work sometimes, some work reliably.

Unfortunately, I only have two sticks here right now to test (both SanDisk ).

Going through tons of IMG that I torrented, as well as basically building this damn thing from scratch. So far, to no avail. *sigh*
