ansatz is to fill the first two (paired) slots on each riser card. the bandwidth and latency will be optimized if you fill those, so in addition to the 2x512s you have now, you may want to just get 2x2 GB for the other card.

I have a colleague who buys from transintl with no problems. Also try Other World Computing, I like the personally.

People even have success if you're looking for the cheapest route is whatever is on sale at NewEgg (currently $34 for a 1 GB chip.)

Personally I consider RAM quality important enough to stick to only a few vendors like OWC (excellent vendor) & Crucial, but have heard nothing bad about transintl. No way would I buy RAM from NewEgg's discount routine, even if it was free. A small RAM problem can be hugely expensive to resolve.

Keep in mind that you need to buy RAM intended for use in a Mac Pro (with oversized heatsinks). The cheapest stuff probably has the standard heatsinks.

Wait from my understanding there are 4 raisers on the mac pros? So I currently have 2x512s, so from what bash is stating for best setup I need to fill the other 3 raisers?

There are 2 risers with 4 slots each. Memory must be installed in pairs. Filling two pairs (4 of 8 slots) will max out the memory bandwidth, but additional capacity may be helpful for your usage.

I see...
So Riser 1 = 2x512s & Riser 2 = 2x1gbs (or whatever I choose)?
or
Riser 1 = 2x512s & 2x1gbs (or whatever I choose)?

I highly suggest installing your ram in a fashion within this chart.
