maybe it's symbolic of the national mood, but it seems to me that, under panther, my columns of desktop icons have shifted to the right.
in jaguar, i used to be able to keep a set of alias icons in a row across the top of my screen. so, with 'snap to grid' checked, they lined up neatly across the top of my screen (at the top of the columns).
it's not the most serious thing, but now there is more space between the left side of the screen and the first-icon-on-the-left and less space between the last-icon-on-the-right and the right side of the screen (unless i go and set them by hand with 'snap to grid' off).
has anyone else got this? is there a fix?
(i'm running 10.3.1 on a 15' tiBook G4)

I know Apple changed the "grid" under Panther...not sure if that is a bug or what though...

i also have a problem with the desktop layout in Panther. it bugs me that you cant keep the icons arranged by date created with the newest being added to the bottom of the page. for some reason they changed this from jaguar to panther.

Yes, the icons on the right side of the screen (hard drives, etc.) now are too far to the left (it wasn't so in Jaguar): why isn't there a "narrow grid" option, like in Mac OS 9? - it would be a useful option, indeed...
