My office just purchased a new, dual 2.7 GHz PowerMac from MacMall. Tiger came installed on the machine, but the backup disks are for 10.3.7 (Panther). What gives?

Someone seems to have opened your G5s packaging. All the April 2005 G5s shipped with both 10.4 DVDs (2) and 10.4 preinstalled.

Call either MacMall to get those original DVDs or Apple. afaik 10.3 doesn't run on the April 2005 PowerMacs so don't just get the upgrade CDs.

More likely MacMall got the machine before Tiger was released, and they installed Tiger on it themselves, but didn't put update disks in the box. Call MacMall first and then call Apple if they can't help you.

10.3 does run fine on these machines.

10.3 doesn't run properly on the new iMacs though.

Apple never shipped any of the April 2005 PMs with anything but 10.4. Call them. You'll see.
