Transmit is a nice Cocoa FTP client.
Fetch is an old classic brought to OS X.
Both are around $20 to $30.
CreativePage, available at www.pinehillproducts.com/creativepage/ has a built in FTP client and is an (X)HTML client, which goes for $29.95.
If you don't need to upload files, you can always use the Finder in Jaguar OS X 10.2.

Transmit is the best. I don't know what people see in fetch.

Fetch: - automatically decodes MacBinary and BinHex files while in transit (important in the case of BinHex since StuffIt Expander doesn't decode those correctly anymore)
- lets you view text files without downloading them (handy in the case of abstract lists)
- keeps a history list of every folder you've ever browsed at a certain web site (extremely handy)
- is free if you're a student (educational license)

Fetch only has a following with "classic" macheads.
The best ftp client for X is opening up Terminal.app and typing "ftp <location>"
(just to stir up the waters!)

Oh, by the way - I did not start this thread to make a list of FTP clients. In fact I didn't start this thread at all. I just responded to the topic, the forums database screwed up on the original poster again.

Transmit rocks however now requires registration which some people inlcuding me can't afford. You should try RBrowser

Thanks for the clarification - I thought your post and the thread title didn't quite match...
Anyway, I still use NetFinder and I think it works well - unfortunately the authors are doing as little as possible to keep it up to date (which wouldn't be a problem if it did sftp).

Sure can. Choose "Set Permissions..." from the Remote menu.

I just downloaded the trial of transmit, and I must say it is really cool. Very easy to use, nice sync capabilities.
I didn't used to like the double paned windows, but I'm starting to like it a little more these days. plus you can turn it off if you want.
It can open text files remotely with bbedit, which is nice, then change directories, save your first file, and it doesn't change directories back like fetch does. This is why I choose not to use fetch, and will purchase a license for transmit. I am fully willing to pay for a good product.
I got fetch for free, but now they make you pay for it. psshhht. Its not worth the money, I don't think.

Seems nobody has mentioned Interarchy (used to be called Anarchie). It works great, has lots of nice features, and hasn't crashed at all with daily use.
http://www.interarchy.com/
In the meantime, I'll revisit Fetch and Transmit.

If you use GoLive, there is a perfectly fine FTP client there. If you need to SSH in OS X, I have found MacSFTP to work great.
