HEY EVERYBODY! This is a weird problem, so I decided to include AUDIO SUPPLEMENTS. I have a Mac Pro Dual-core and the computer runs great, there are no problems except...

WHENEVER I TRY TO RESTART - the finder closes, screen goes black like normal, but before the Apple startup chord, the computer just doesn't do anything and the screen remains black. OH and my superdrive makes THIS NOISE:

Unplugging the drive doesn't solve the problem. The drive works fine when the computer is on.

So I end up forcing it off or just shutting down. HOWEVER, my computer will sometimes FAIL at booting up. It will make the startup chord, but the fans will keep spinning wildly and nothing will actually happen:

Normally it would sound like this:

Thanks for any help!!!

I hope you have apple care, cause i had the exact same problem your post is describing. Those audio samples brought chills down my spine just remembering!!! Basically this is what happens when your logic board is about to fail i guess. The only way to fix it is to get a new one. So if you're under a year with your warranty, or if you got the apple care, you'll be fine. Otherwise, you'll have to buy a whole new logic board which is like a grand!!! Luckily, I was smart and bought the apple care. Never know when that will come in handy. Hope that helps. CHEERS!
