Suggestions for a timepiece?

So over the past so many years I've been opposed to having a watch just because the idea of strapping the time to me seemed really unappealing/cyborg-ish (I don't know). Plus I hate the icky feeling leather straps have on the wrist after a while, and steel straps catch hairs and hurt a lot! But practicality sort of dictates now and rather than carrying my cell phone around with me, I'm looking for a watch of some sort.
Actually, I would prefer a pocket watch but I'm not sure how economical that is. It seems like pocket watches are sort of a niche market and it would just be cheaper to buckle down (har har) and get a wristwatch.
Any suggestions? The time is important to me. Not so much anything else. Actually, it would kind of be cool to have a purely mechanical watch that tells me the lunar cycle/date/etc. But primarily time is important to me. The cheaper the better.
Thanks!

Just use your cell phone if you can't wear one.

Well, I'd rather wear a watch than carry my cellphone around.

Hah, but it's more complicated than that. If something costs more, I'm more likely to concern myself with where it is and not lose it.
In my previous experience, too cheap watches break easily and lose accuracy fast. So something cheap that I can value, I guess, is what I'm looking for. What do you guys wear, and do you like it/recommend it?

My titanium Skagen is cheap and light. It matches my PowerBook as well.

You really should get a cheap Timex (like around $100). They're pretty durable and decently accurate. I have one for playing tennis and running etc.. Its an ugly watch but its comfortable and it can take a lot of abuse, it hasn't broken yet.

I have a timex expedition and it works well.
I recommend a leather or canvass band. PVC/rubber will get brittle and spilt after a while (several years), and velcro becomes useless in several months (if it is getting wet and dirty on a semi-regular basis). Also if you work out with a cloth or velcro band it starts to stink horribly.

Mine got really, really tired of me asking her what time it was. Got me a nice watch for my birthday. Nice Sector watch with a rubber band.
Ain't easy finding a decent picture online. Anyway after having done years and years of cheap watches of all kinds this is the first quality watch I've ever owned and it's perfect.
I harldy notice it, it's so damn comfortable and I don't ever have to worry about taking it off- I swim a lot with it.
my 2 centimes.

That isn't how it works with me. If it's expensive, I am surely to break/lose it.
That is also why I buy cheap sunglasses.

for a nice "medium" price range watch, I'd recommend ... on the low-end: Tag Heuer and on the high end: Breitling.

Timex are defiantly cheap, I find the bands to break easy. Also they just look cheap...
I use a Citizen, and I love it. Its powered by the sun, and when it doesn't recieve light, the hands shut down until it receives light again, making the dials spin around until its set again. Takes 30sec to 1 min depending on the times the dials have to spin to catch up with time.
I also think Tissot is a good mid watch brand.
I recommend spending a bit of money on something that you will enjoy.
No offense, but Timex just does not do it for me.

I just want something to tell time with. I care less about fashion statements.
And no watch I own, no matter how much it costs is going to last me more than 2 years.

Damn what are you doing... My watches last 2, 5, 10 years... Depending on how well they are build, and how well I treat them.

Meh, I hate carrying a cellphone around. It's just a machine that lets other people interrupt you at will. When I'm hanging out with people or meeting up with someone or whatever, it's useful, but I don't want to take it to the office/library/all other times. And those are the times that I usually need to know the time.

Turn your cellphone to a silent mode.
Or use an iPod with the date set to show time.

Alright. Since it's apparently not obvious, I will explain in detail why I will not carry around my cell phone and why there is no workaround.
1) The cell phone is an odd shape and does not fit nicely into pants that are the slightest bit tight
2) A choice between ring and vibrate does not afford me any silence
3) I would have to charge my cell phone every other day
4) Even if I physically managed to disable the vibrating, I'd still see a missed call message
5) My cell phone does not continue to tell the time when there is no signal
6) I hate cell phones
7) My cell phone does not have a flip cover and buttons are pressed when I walk
8) People understand my hatred of cell phones. People would not understand carrying around a cell phone for the explicit purpose of checking the time and then not responding to their calls.
9) My cell phone is not water resistant
10) I will not buy a new cell phone just to amend these problems so I can tell the time; this is simply silly
I'm not going to buy an iPod just to tell me the time. I can explain that one too...
waxcrash -- thanks for the links. However, I should have been more specific. I'm looking for something really cheap. Not a watch you get from a cereal box, but not something over $120.

I can't wear a watch, it drives me nuts. I guess I just didn't grow up used to having one there. I just check my phone for the time.
