:after last week's E3, this is what the Japanese walked away most impressed with, according to Famitsu:
1. Impressions of the PS3 controller 2. Final Fantasy XIII information 3. PS3 price and release date 4. Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Snake playable announcment 5. PS3 menu & interface 6. PS3 online service 7. PS3 game pics 8. Polymorphic content surrounding FFXIII 9. Dragon Quest Swords 10. Square-Enix game pics
Notice that the only thing on that list not relating to the PS3 is Super Smash Bros.... and that's only you can play a PS3 character in it! :
That mean everything at E3 not just sony news.
In other words they love it no matter what it did.
Stupid fanboys.

I'm sorry, but the graphics in both Zelda AND FF VII had problems. BUT for their time, they were BOTH excellent games.

I loved Zelda WW but the graphics were pretty bad. Not from a design standpoint but anything 30 feet infront of Link was incredibly blurred (message boards were full of complaints). If the PS2 can do 1080i there is no excuse for the gamecube which had much better capabilities.

Don't worry, that is OK, I was slightly confused with the former "Well, japan still loves the PS3", it was like a 'take that you <whatever>'', a pro-SONY statement, but then your "In other words they love it no matter what it did" was explanatory.
That was all.

What I was going to say before I got interrupted and had to fix a kid's laptop. They meant it more like, what the most curious event of E3 was.

Do you guys honestly think the PS3 will make it to market in 6 months ? i realy doubt it...the whole Blu-Ray fiasco coupled with the production of the Cell seem to make it unlikely. but thats my opinion. Even if they do make it out for the holidays, i dont think they'll be able to take advantage of the holiday buying season due to constrained supply. And are they still shooting for a global launch ?

Yeah thats pretty cool that broadway was pitched to Apple for the PowerBook line. It's definately a bit reassuring cause as u mentioned it would have to deliver better than G4 performance....not that it matters at the end, but nice to know.
Also, i want to give a huge kudos to Capcom, for making an exclusive Resident Evil for Wii. The way they weilded the power of the GameCube for Resident Evil 4 is nothing short of extra ordinary, and seeing as how they will be tailoring yet another game from the ground up(as opposed to a multi-system or port) for the Wii is just awesome. I'm stoked.
If the purpose of a hardware platform is to spur software sales... Nintendo are exceeding expectations imo. there are so many games (first, second and third party) games that i want to play and experience on the Wii specifically it's shocking. Usually i have maybe 5 games on my must-have list.... now it's close to double, and thats just lauch titles.

Actually, LucasArts has said that they're interested in exactly that: a lightsaber game where the controller makes the famous sounds.

In other words, they're banking on pure, raw brand loyalty.
Last I checked, Steve Jobs hadn't joined the board for Sony. What works for Apple won't work for them.

PONY UP!
So so far the console war seems to be going like this:
Microsoft: Really enhancing multiplayer functionality, building the 360 into a great media center. Heavy hitting franchises. 360 is the console for hardcore game night with the guys.
Nintendo: Working on building better game controls, and making console more accessible. Wii is more the console for playing a game with your girlfriend, or friends who are more casual gamers.
Sony: Throwing parts in a box, and repaints their controller. Marketing plan is to sell at an outrageous price to people who blindly buy anything with the Sony logo on it.
I ran across this movie this weekend:

i was reading an article yesterday (cant find it now), and the author said something along the lines of "Sony seem to think that ur priveledged to own one of their products".
Also just watched the Sony E3 conference ....rather pathetic when the presenter has to keep asking for applause every 15 minutes.

Just thought I'd post this to help rub it in...
From IGN's Best of E3 awards...
Biggest Surprise:
Sony's Underwhelming Press Conference
Sony, you broke our hearts. Before the press conference, a lot of people thought that this could be the year that Sony placed so much distance between itself and its competitors that they'd automatically be declared the next-gen winner. Instead, the conference cast a ton of doubt on just about everything. From the extreme boredom that set in when the Gran Turismo HD demo ran too long to showing lackluster titles at their press conference, Sony let the momentum they built up from last year literally fade away. No Killzone or Devil May Cry (and no apology to their absence) had people scratching their heads, while other viewers couldn't get over the wii-tarded demonstration of the "additional" motion sensing controller, which seemed to borrow just about everything from Sony's competition (while killing vibration at the same time).
The price of the console gave lots of players around the world a heart attack as they tried to figure out how they could pay down for it come this November. Plus, the discovery of the 20 gig system missing key hardware features turned the dual price point argument into a point of ridicule for many supporters of the platform. Not the best start to the 2006 show by any means.

PS3= Vista= Vaporware. Far as I'm concerned Sony should drop it and start working on the PS4, because by the time they get it out people will be waiting for the xbox 1080 and UltraSuperCuteFriends systme by Nintendo.

"There is concern about stores using halogen lighting. Tons of halogen spotlights scattered about may give everything a much warmer and more ambient feel. However, this particular type of lighting can throw off the aiming of the Wii controller when the lights are angled down through the path of the signal. Wii price: $250 or less. Link
Knowing how things usually transfer to UK prices, thats probably £199. £10 less than a Core XBox 360 and less than half the price of a PS3 (£425). Nice one!!

Seems like a reasonable price point for what it actually delivers. I wouldn't say the Wii is cheap compared to the PS3, since its tech is, well, much inferior. At $250, they probably won't have to subsidize it at all.

Sony is clearly the underdog here, which is great imo. Less room for dissapointment. There was a similar negative sentiment prior to the launches of the PSone & PS2 as well, but they turned out pretty well after all. Nintendo has built up considerable hype that it has to live up to, so it'll be interesting to see how it all pans out once the dust settles.
As always, time will tell

Old news, but still lame.
It should be able to do "classic" Dolby encoding (still lame).
I miss this much more than I miss HD.

Nintendo isn't stupid. They have enough market research to back up the cold, hard fact that people aren't using these things. It's why they dropped the DIGITAL OUT video port from later revisions of the GameCube as well: people just aren't using or demanding these things in numbers that justify including them.
Rest assured: if any remotely significant number of people start demanding digital video or optical audio, Nintendo will announce a revised Wii with these ports within days. They're not difficult to add, particularly for a company that has been researching exactly these technologies since the days of the N64 at the earliest. But they are costly, to the point where it's not worth adding them unless there's enough demans.

The problem is that for people like me who have a 360 and a PS2, using a Wii is going to be a serious pain in the ass to set up. I had to go to Radio Shack and get an optical encoder for the GameCube just so I can hook it into my Pelican switcher's optical input. Funny, the 360 and the PS2 have optical outs. The same goes for video. I had to ORDER a component cable from Nintendo which took OVER A WEEK to arrive for the same reason.
If anything, why not just give those of us with the gear what WE want?
