I think this forum tends to be a bit lame, in spite of good initiatives like your fun assignements. Threads like: Freehand or Illustrator are a real killer( in the minus) for me. You are right about changing the name, I fear it's maybe the first step towards the eventual closing down. Maybe the name should be a bit more inviting, "creativity challenge" or " geek meets art"...I don't know, english is not my first language, I trust you guy's to come up with something.

I vote for Graphic Design without a description.
Also, I had no idea this forum existed until yesterday!
We need bigger announcements.

I think it's just that people are a little confused over what exactly to post to this forum. With all the Illustrator vs. Freehand threads, they might feel a little intimidated to ask a simple Photoshop question.
But that should change soon. I'm going to be posting more...interesting (as well as educational) topics soon. So don't worry.
oh yeah, this forum forum isn't going to go anywhere. so let's improve it. anybody else have thoughts on the name change?

Looking at where this forum is positioned on the "Big Board", why not move it out of the "Software - Troubleshooting & General Discussion" area?
Is it supposed to be there, and are all challenges and anything aside from the Freehand/Illustrator type discussions OT?
Am I right in assuming the name change is to increase popularity?
Here are some names:
Static Media (since there's the Multimedia & DV forum)
- Fun with Bryce, Photoshop, Illustrator, Freehand, Painter, etc.
Imagery
- Same description as above
Why not just drop the Illustration? Illustration as it relates to Computers would still be Graphics, right? Maybe broaden the appeal?

that's a thought. if it moved anywhere, it'd go in the special topics section

they're all on topic.

well, i've always wanted to incorporate the word 'design' into the title. so that's part of the reason. and increased popularity never hurt neither

Imagery

hmm, not so sure about the static part. makes it sound kind of boring. imagery is closer, but a bit too vague i think.
i'm leaning towards something like b and c:
Graphic Design/Art
Be Creative. Help your Fellow Artist.

I say add design to the title at the end, and keep the app names underneath. This will be a very good forum.

I vote for Art&Design, no need to name the aplications. Anybody into the subject and relevant applications will visit, anybody who has never used PS, Illustrator, Freehand etc might be more tempted to look if the applications aren't mentioned.

"Graphic Design" does not apply to all who venture into this forum. I for example use Photoshop for illustration, and that is definately not graphic design.
I believe that Graphics/Illustration/Design would best fit the title of this forum.

I'd say Graphic Design or Visual Design are good ones. I also feel that naming names with applications isn't necessary. Maybe just a brief description without "naming names" as far as applications go, this way there's no bias towards anything specific.
I do like this forum, and would like to see it keep going in some way or another

Art&Design...sounds like a magazine I could read
I'd go for either that or Graphic Design...but this would not include web design for instance...so perhaps just Design would do. Or maybe Art & Design... yeah...or... aaah!

Graphic Design & Illustration
I noticed a typography question in the Lounge somebody looking for a good font ID software package. This would be the place but how do people know to come here?

Sorry, never really cared about the name.
As long as you don't rename it like the one's over at MacAddict. I mean, how can anyone cope with such cheesy titles as 'The rant room' or 'have mac will travel', I always thought the threads should be silly, not the actual Forum itself.
Count a vote for Graphic Design & Art while you're at it though.

Are you trying to emphasize the creative nature or the technical nature, or neither?
Graphic Arts
- creation with (list of software here)
I think that would draw my attention. It seems broad enough to say to me "you might find people's work, or tips on software usage in this forum"

Seems that most people like a combination of Design, Graphics, and Illustration so I've gone with that for now. I made up a new description that's less restrictive (because listing the apps sort of constrains discussion in a new user's mind).
Feedback and suggestions for a better title (and especially description, as you guys can describe your forum better than I can) would be welcome.
This is just a temporary change to try it out ... we can always change the name once again.
Thanks for the feedback.
cheers,
gzl

I like the new title "Art and Graphic Design"
Just don't forget to change it in the text links at the bottom of the page.
