Currently I have an iMac 600 w/ 512Mb RAM. I'm thinking about move to an eMac 1Ghz with combo drive, but I read a lot of messages relating some issues with eMac monitor.

I'd like to know some opinions about that, and the real speed increment if I move to eMac.

Thanks.

Yes, the monitor issue with the eMacs is really annoying (I've experienced it personally), but if the one you get has that problem you'll notice it early, maybe even on day one. "Popping" sounds and flickering are sure signs that it will eventually go black. But at least for me it happened while it was still under warranty instead of 3 years later as with my rev. b iMac.

For me it was a huge increase in speed, coming from a 233 Mhz iMac, but you probably won't experience the same. Mac OS X on it gave a good impression, and is probably even better with 10.3. I'm still waiting for it to come back from the shop so I haven't had a chance to try out any of the real goodies like iMovie.

Thanks for you response. I'm thinking about keep my iMac 600 and install 10.3 with an archive & install option. I like my iMac so much, the monitor quality is great and it has 512 Mb RAM. Oh, yes, and I like the Slot Loading CD!!!

The eMac has only 128Mb.
The only think is the screen resolution, it's better in eMac.

I have had my eMac for about 4 months and haven't had any issues with the monitor. haven't had any popping sounds i do remember getting flickering when i used to have a fan sitting on my desk. if you are really concerned about it save some money and get an imac
