Apart from most BitTorrent sites being down at the moment (and no, it won't be a good idea to correct me).

It's closing the gap with FastTrack (Kazaa, Grokster, and iMesh) as the most used P2P network

According to slyck.com

FastTrack : 2,617,804 users
eDonkey : 2,084,894 users

The next closest network is iMesh's proprietary network and it isn't even at 1 million users.

Got eDonkey to work at last (kept crashing when I wanted to share stuff), and it's very responsive in comparison to piggy back programmes like mlMac.

This was my experience as well. I was a big fan of Xdonkey for six months or so until I finally tried eDonkey2000. The one thing that sucks about eDonkey2000 is that if the program quits or you crash, the connection to donkey closes too. With xDonkey there is the ability to quit the program and still have the daemon run/download in the backgroud.

Yeah, don't try to share any files with eDonkey2000... spin spin spin crash.

If you're going to play with illegal files you should have to live a little dangerously, no? How about BitTorrent, most unsecure protocol on the scene right now, short of standing on the street corner with a briefcase full of pirated DVDs...

Funnily, in the UK at least standing on a street corner with a briefcase of pirated DVDs is the safer option

(Tip: don't move the app and its folders around or you'll loose partial files).
