I just had a thought (i know, rare event):
Most people I know who want/have iPods are my age(14) or 5-10 years older. I have no idea what the hell U2 is or any of their songs, except for Elevation (that was theirs, right?), and I was brought up around a very musical family. so is making a U2 iPod a good idea?

My guess is that if you had a breakdown of iPod users' demographics, you'd see the range is much wider than 14-24 years of age. At the gym I go to, I often see people in their 30s, 40s and 50s with them. At some point, a lady who must have been in her 60s asked me about my iPod. Pretty cool, although to be honest, I would have preferred it to be a female in her 20s or 30s.
So in answer to your question, yes, it probably is a good idea.

This is actually pretty similar to the "Celebrity iPods" Apple did a couple of years ago, with signatures (or logos) of Madonna, No Doubt, and Tony Hawk lasered onto the backs. The idea of a black iPod will definitely attract more attention though, as it is something that some people have been wanting for quite a while.

It's not going to have the really crappy rubber-like cover. A better plastic will be used (This is almost spam) and I bet it will flow into the back better.

I think it's actually a mix they came up with that contains car paint. But yeah, the finish is good.

They sell a huge amount of records, get tons of airplay, and if I'm not mistaken, they have the number one song on the iTMS. Yeah, seems kind of stupid to team up with a band like that, you know, 'cause you've never heard of them.
Seriously, even though some people don't care for them, they're still huge, they come with a huge fan base, a fan base that obviously likes music to some extent, and some of those people are going to want cool portable music players.
Of course I might be biased, they've been my favorite band for 20 years.

So if this album comes pre-installed on the iPod, how do you get it onto your computer? I know, WE know how to get it onto our computers, but are they going to give people a coupon for the albums or something?

Good question. I don't see all those people buying the iPods then downloading something from version tracker just to get it on their computer. The first time they plug in their iPods to sync it with their library, the preinstalled U2 stuff with be erased. They can't really give all those people coupons or else the album will be leaked liked crazy, which is something U2 was seriously trying to avoid. Anyone know how they're going to do this?

U2 were huge throughout the 80's and 90's (in Australia, at least). Anyone who listened to popular radio for a few of those years would have heard of them (maybe not JJJ though, which I don't listen to anyway).

Storer does not speak for Australia when he says this. I just spoke to a few people and they don't know of anyone who hasn't heard of U2. You're in the minority man.

I have to believe that Apple's version of the black ipod is bound to look better than a white one that has been spray painted. That picture is not very impressive at all.

Generally by the differing music and lyrics. Have you ever noticed that if someone (anyone) doesn't like a band, their first critique is always "their songs all sound the same?"
I can only guess is that if you (not you specifically, anyone) don't like them, you don't listen well enough to get more than a vague style from them, hence every song sounds the same.

Has been released - like a few months ago.
Wasn't there a limited number of black iPods (like 75 or 100) given out by Jaguar as some sort of promotion/contest? I don't have time to google it or find a picture, but I seem to recall some story about it.
