I'm trying to find a functional FTP program that's free/shareware. Any recommendations?

Free: Cyberduck

Less free: Transmit

I got a copy of YummyFTP through one of the Mac software giveaways last year and quite like it. Before that I was using Cyberduck.

Sorry, I didn't mean to be a jerk. The link gives a nice list. You should certainly try a bunch and see what fits your needs. Also, use sftp if you can. It is more secure. I use Fugu for sftp.

I don't understand why people happily continue to use FTP. STOP!!! Do NOT use FTP! It is insecure, your password is sent in the clear (unless you use the less common FTP with SSL).

Only use it if you don't care about your account possibly being compromised (rather irresponsible), or the servers are behind a firewall restricting connections from the outside world. Otherwise, if your host only provides FTP, switch. Anonymous FTP is fine.

It is 2007, people should NOT be sending passwords in the clear, period.

I'll throw in a vote for Transmit. I love it enough that instead of going for a different, free app, I laid down the $$ for it.

YummyFTP

I use to use Transmit, but it has an issue with deleting files off our server, if you edit files directly on the server through BBEdit/Textwrangler, and I've been waiting for about 7 months for them to return my call on the issue so... They have been replaced.

I've tried a ton of FTP/SFTP apps, and Cyberduck has been my favorite by far.
