3G iPhone with iTunes rentals available via the WiFi store. Also MBP and MP updates. Also, 10.5.2.

Subnotebook. Probably a preview of iPhone third-party apps (since apparently a few dev houses are getting the SDK early).

I doubt they're going to preview a 10.x.2 release at MacWorld. "And now let me show you how we lined the buttons up slightly better in iTunes! And Airport doesn't drop out under certain rare circumstances! Boom!"

I didn't say they'd preview it, but it will be released then.

Why would that be? If it's not going to be featured at the conference, what's the point in it coinciding?

IDK, but they do it almost every year. Ask Mr. Jobs. If new hardware is released, it always ships with the updates released during Macworld.

According to my trusty copy of MacTracker, Tiger was the only OS that had an update coinciding with MWSF.

Good luck with that. AT&T wouldn't have it.

Hmm. You seem to be right. I think I'm thinking of NAB. But nonetheless, the release of 10.5.2 will coincide with Macworld.

It's best to low-ball your predictions for the average Macworld. That is to say: no multi-touch tablets, no 3G iPhone, no media center, and no rentals.

I think there will be a new ultra-slim laptop, and that will be the only major release to speak of.

Rentals and a new iPhone will probably each have their own "special event" releases.

I predict Steve will wear plaid Bermuda shorts and a lime green golf shirt shucking off his hippie jeans and black mock turtle-neck image for a well polished k00L look.

Oh and a blast proof plastic see-thru MacBook.

I've been wondering if they incorporate true commercial hi-def optical disc support (Blu-ray and/or HD DVD), but my guess is no. If they did do it though, it'd come with a new Mac Pro (which is due for an update).

Oh and no 3G iPhone either yet.

Maybe a new small form factor pro laptop.

Quiet release of an updated Mac mini? Nah. Too early.

Maybe a new Xserve. (And yes they have announced Xserves at Macworld before.)

No iTablet.

AppleInsider: Apple to adopt Intel's ultra-mobile PC platform

People familiar with the matter tell AppleInsider that Apple will soon emerge as one of the largest supporters of Intel's "Menlow" Mobile Internet Device (MID) platform -- the same platform the Santa Clara-based chipmaker has been harping about for the past several months.

More specifically, those same people say, Apple has taken a liking to the upcoming 45-nanometer (nm) "Silverthorne" chip, agreeing to use it in not one but multiple products currently situated on its 2008 calendar year product roadmap.

Introduced at this year's Spring Intel Developer Forum (IDF) with availability slated for early 2008, Silverthorne is aimed specifically at cell phones, ultra-mobile PCs and other MIDs. The chip is expected to be as fast as the second-generation of Pentium M processors, but use only between half a watt and 2 watts of electrical power -- about one tenth as much as a typical notebook chip.

Same old intro music.

Update on iPhone sales, making it look like everyone in the world wants one.

Cinema displays with iSights built in.

Faster MacBooks and MacBook Pros.

Movie rentals from iTunes which play on the Apple TV.

All in all, most people will be unimpressed. People will expect more - like a new tablet that everyone figures Apple will "get right" and everyone wants the "One More Thing" section to be something mind blowing. It won't be, and everyone will go back to life as usual.

-Slightly updated Mac Pro with low end ATI graphics (x2400 or x2600 variant) and optional 8x00 nVidia card (since the current versions use low-end nVidia and higher end ATI). Faster processors; 4 and 8 core models. BTO BluRay drive.

-Some kind of a thin notebook; 13" MacBook Pro. No super ULV subnotebook ultralight. Minor refresh to 15" and 17" MacBook Pros to bring new-style function keys (like on the new Apple keyboards and the current revision of the MacBook).

-New Cinema displays w/ iSight and HDMI.

Nothing earth-shattering.
