My PB 17in has just decided that my login password is wrong. I haven't changed it or done anything, and the reminder is still the same. How can this happen?? The only thing I can do is restart, then it comes up fine, no login required.

I bet someone out there has one of those cute "Go into terminal and type......" solutions?

Nope, I have a cute "boot up from the installer CD and change your user password" solution.

I assume that this isn't the "login won't work if you click the login button, but will work if you press enter" problem introduced by the security update a little while back?

Er, yes it is actually! Thanks. Which security update was that? No, don't tell me it would only complicate things

Just open SW update (system prefs) and it should list the update. Install it and your troubles will be over.
