Hello list,

After the 10.4.9 update my Mac will crash/halt when I walk away from it for an extended period of time. I never turn of my G5, and it is set to never sleep by itself (but turn of the display).

My PowerMac is a dual 2.3GHz G5, 3GB RAM and has a ATI X800XT Mac Edition AGP card. Never been this unstable... The panic.log shows something fishy in the ATI driver... Anybody have any clues? I have been unable to find anything related to my problem on Google and MacNN...

panic.log:

The panic is apparently related to your ATI GPU.

Sorry, didn't bother reading your self-diagnosis. I'll look to see if I have an X800 driver lying around.

There is a driver on the ATI site, but it is 1,5 year old - I really don't feel like installing something that old. If anybody cares to extract the 10.4.8 version, that would be nice.

Also, this is probably a FAQ, but where can I report this to Apple? I've used the crashreporter about 10 times by now ;-)

Recently aquired Quad G5 with Nvdia card. Ran combined update from 10.4 to 10.4.9
Energy setting at highest performance and never sleep computer or drives. If it sleeps it will not wake up. If left for a long period it crashes with a similar message as noted in this thread.
I will capture complete info later but wondered if anyone has the problem is 10.4.8?
Any other ideas welcome.

I didn't have this issue with 10.4.8, which is quite annoying. I changed some ATI files to 10.3 ones from the ATI driver CD and still have crashes, this time often with Firewire errors. Not sure what is wrong but I will do a 10.4.8 install soon...
