just a simple question ... can i know where are Apple's products made? i was told before that all desktop Macs are made in China (forgot the name of the manufacturer) ... and all laptops are made in Taiwan (ASUS) ... but for other stuffs like iPod (also China?), iSight ... i'm not sure as i was told not on China making them ... can anybody who knows about this tell me more? Thanks ...
Best regards from,

The back of my iPod 3G 15GB says it was assembled in Taiwan. My iPod shuffle says it was made in China.

The PowerMacs are made in China. I remember this specificallly because I lost a sale last year to a person who wouldn't buy one because it wasn't made by U. S. union workers, so we looked at all the boxes in stock and they were all assembled in China. I don't know if the guy ever got a computer, because I don't recall if there's anyone assembling machines in America anymore.

My iMac G4 17" FP 800Mhz was assembled in Taiwan, as are the laptops.

I wonder how much more it would cost per PowerMac to assemble in the US. I'd pay $50 more for a US-assembled machine.

Not very true. The sticker on my DP 2.0 (Rev. B) box says "COMPUTER ASSEMBLED IN U.S.A."

$50 more maaaaybe only for final assembly here -- all the components would still be Asian. If the entire machine was made here, you'd be looking at hundreds and hundreds of dollars more, maybe even a four-digit increase.

Okay, but would you pay 25 pounds extra for the guarantee of assembly in merry old England?

Surprisingly, Dell desktops are also assembled in the US... i guess it was the one expense they didn't cut so they could get more of the people who won't buy foreign products (even though all of the dell parts and such are from Mexico)

Final assembly only, for some BTO machines. Component manufacture is all overseas.

It's probably because they want to be able to ship quickly, and customs can add days to a delivery date. Most of the parts are still going to be made in Asia.

Note that both Apple and other companies have special models (I forget what they're called) to meet special Made in USA requirements for certain types of government contracts that demand domestic product.

I'm aware that compenets are manufactured overseas; final assembly are the words I should have used, to be clearer. I worked for Apple for two years, and have sold PCs and Macs for over ten.
