Clinton insider Rahm Emanuel accepts BO offers of White House Chief of Staff.
WASHINGTON -- President-elect Barack Obama chose Illinois Rep. Rahm Emanual to be his White House chief of staff, his first selection for the new administration, Democratic officials said Wednesday.
So much for change. Emanuel is one of the most partisan members of congress.

So? I'm more interested in who he chooses for Secretary of State or Secretary of the Treasury than I am in who's going to be White House Chief of Staff. Bush's chiefs of staff haven't been exactly non-partisan either.

*Sigh* do you know what the Chief of Staff does, Chongo? Why would you not want somebody in this position that you personally felt close to and comfortable with?

Although it is counter-intuitive, this is actually a great pick if you are looking for a bipartisan Obama agenda. Emanuel will play the bad cop and be better able to bludgeon rank-and-file Democrats into falling in line, while Obama reaches across the aisle.

I should have emphasized in this *particular* position. Seriously, Chief of Staff is very much like picking a VP. Read the Wikipedia page on this position to get a better sense of what it entails. It seriously only makes sense for any president to pick somebody they feel personally comfortable with. Who would you have picked?

Wow, you truly are blinded by partisanship.

Name me ONE President-elect who chose someone from the other party to be his Chief of Staff. Just one. I'll be waiting....

Show me where I asked for this ?

I think it would have been enough to appoint someone who is NOT known for partisan behavior.

All the Republicans need to get off their high horse and realize that any conservative appointed to Obama's staff is a gift, not an obligation.

They should be thankful for what they are getting honestly. Obama could completely shut them out if he wanted.

After the Democracks gave us the greatest gift of all ?

And the Republicans are lucky that he is, and honestly should be thankful for that instead of whining and moaning whenever he appoints a Democrat for a post.

I mean, what do you expect? He's a Democrat. The Republicans lost, and yet they expect to be treated like winners.

To repeat: Obama will be coming into the presidency from being a one-term U.S. senator. He needs someone as his chief of staff who has a history of party loyalty and great Hill connections if he wants to have any legislative agenda, much less a bipartisan one. There are plenty of other opportunities to place more independent-minded advisers, and I expect to see a few.

Maybe you should think about if Hillary got elected how many Republicans would be put into Hillary's cabinet...

The Republicans lost. The Democrats aren't under any obligation to put any Republicans in the executive branch. The more noise the Republicans make about how unfair it is that the party that won the election is putting people from that party into office, the less the Democrats are going to want to work with any of the whiners.

I don't expect much from Republicans but I do expect a little perspective. You guys have had things your way for 8 years, 6 of which you had Congress too.

I don't recall too many Democrats in Bush's administration or much bipartisanship from the right during that time.

So, before you start whining and complaining, why not wait and see what ACTUALLY happens over the next few months?

I swear, the vitriol and hate some people have for Obama is astounding.

Unbelievable that the Democratic President-elect chose a Democrat to be his chief of staff. What will he do next? Chongo, Railhead, Turtle, I absolutely agree that this is completely stunning. Do you think he'll dare to put other Democrats in his administration?!

I find it interesting that you didn't mention McCain.

I also find it interesting that prior to election, the republican candidate was trying very hard to distance himself from Bush, and after the election, it seems everyone is pissed off at Palin.

IOW, the dislike of Bush and Palin is not exclusive to Democrats. Furthermore, the respect of McCain is not limited to Republicans.

No. I sure as hell don't have everything figured out. Not even close. The closer I get to thinking I've figured everything out, the more I realize that I don't understand much at all. I think anyone who claims to have figured everything out is an idiot.

No one is saying he should be appointing republicans, in fact I don't want him to appoint any republicans. I want this to be all BO and the democrats baby. I was would think someone saying how bipartisan he will be would not choose someone as partisan as Rahm Emanuel. Democratic strategist Paul Begala, has described Emanuel's aggressive style as a "cross between a hemorrhoid and a toothache."
The market is reacting well to BO's election.

I'm curious. I've heard some of you (on the right) describe Clinton as a moderate liberal, particularly in comparison to Obama. So shouldn't it be "encouraging" if Obama pulls someone from Clinton's "moderate liberal" administration?

It’s all the same fụcking shıt, anyway. The corporate filth that’s actually in charge of meta-political decision-making have clearly ascertained that McFụcktard/Mrs.MooseKiller was an unwinnable combo, so they let the coconut win. The only positive thing I can say about the whole shebang would be that O’Bama’s victory might pave the way for more radical black amurrhicanism in the future. As the girls are so fond of saying, ‘Once you go black, you don’t go back.’ Or something to that effect. Lesser evil, bla bla bla.

The "change" Obama brings to Washington is chiefly specific policies he wants Congress to pass. Emanuel's selection does affect "change" in one important respect. It in fact makes it more likely that change will happen with someone as ruthless and effective as Emanuel as Chief of Staff. Bipartisanship is nice, but not at the expense of the policy changes that make up Obama's message of "change."
