When I try and go to AI, all I get is

The server made a boo boo. (500)
A few people at OrangeInsider said they watched as the different topics started disappearing earlier this morning.

Could you let us know what's happening?

Didn't Misha tell us that they were moving AI to a new server at the end of the month. Well it's Sunday morning, what better day to move a web site to a new server? I bet that's what it is.

I was there at 12:30am PST, and saw "Mac OS X," General Discussion" disappear. Then about 10 minuters later, all the other forums went puff except gaming II and the bottom 3 forums.

I figured it was related to the move. The one thing they should do, is have the MacNN Forums, and Appleinsder forums use the same members database. Then when you post to either forum, you posts will be the same, and you won't need to have 2 accounts.

hmm what exactly is a server boo boo?

and if they're moving it 2 a new box will that mean the removal of flood control?

Server boo boo is the custom error message.

I doubt there would be a removal of flood control, isn't the point of flood control mainly to discourage people from making a big mess with flooding?

i believe that is one goal of flood control but i believe the first time i saw it was just before MWNY and it was used 2 reduce server strain...and if AI gets its own server then they wouldn't have 2 worry so much

and sure its purpose 2 keep us from making a mess of things by flooding and posting to much, but we still manage 2 do it.

Edit: double post...but i have something else 2 say anyway

Why does macNN get to have a 30+ page thread (some word association thing) and AI closed mercury rising ( after like 20ish pages?

Hey there Cosmo...double post my 4$$. Me thinks you're now trying to get your post count up over this way now.

I hope we can get back into AI forums ASAP. I think I'm experiencing withdrawal symptoms now. I seem to be wandering around trying to figure out what to do.

But yes AI better be back up soon...i've found myself with nothing 2 do all day...i actually went outside

perhaps its time 2 use the signature i made (modified) while AI was down during MWSF...

Maybe they're taking the occasion to upgrade the ubb and add some new forums like it was suggested recently on the boards. Or maybe we'll never see the forums anymore... *shiver*

Speaking of Saturday's antics i failed misrably in my attempt 2 make 100 posts in one night...i think i got 2 like 64 and then went 2 bed.

O and EmAn, how'd things go w/ the gf? find me on AIM or icq if you don't wanna post in this public forum (kramer6125 and 24184791 respectively)

hey guys! good to see some familiar, err, faces

I figured it was the server move, but wow... takes a while.

AI Boards rule... and the AI Community thread had better still be there (as well as the highly entertaining Kormac series).

BOOKRAT: I hear ya on the withrawl symptoms

Hope that when we get back everything will be new and shiny, new WebBBS version, NEW LOGO (PLEASE), and all the other cool things that they COULD do.

Well, the lack of mindless speculation, rumor-mongering and wild theories over here at the sharp end of MacNN is somewhat depressing.

Sooo, here's something to bring the MacNN forums a little further down from their position as the New York Times of Apple discussions and a little closer to the, uh, Weekly World News level of the AI forums...

Just what are Apple going to discuss for four hours on January 31?

Rumors running rampant:

1. Typical Steve Jobs rant/pep talk? (a given...)
2. Merger talks with Sun? (Please God...say it ain't soooo)
3. Introduction of new iMacs? (nahhhh...)
4. Steve Jobs steps down (and Philip Schiller takes the helm) and Apple is sold to IBM! (now that's far out!)
5. I thought this one was good.

All this waiting/suspense IS KILLING ME!

I hope someone from Apple's PR department will be standing by to censor the QuickTime stream.

My favorite theory is that it's to announce a certain acquisition...

Though it's more likely it'll be a plea for people to hang on in there for a few more weeks.

Well, here's one thing they'll be discussing...

Hewlett-Packard And Apple Fund Web-Based Photo Shop

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Betting business-to-consumer Internet commerce has profitable niches, Hewlett-Packard Co and Apple Computer Inc on Monday joined a $41 million investment in Ofoto Inc., a consumer-oriented online photography start-up.
Hellooo iPhoto...

The boards have been down due to technical difficulties unrelated to a server change (which has yet to take place, unfortunately). They should be back up very soon.

You think a note on the main page might be nice or something, eh? Or a better redirection for the forums, eh? It's all about customer service.

Customer service?!
how are we customers?

I think i've clicked one of the banners maybe once? not to say that it wouldn't be nice for them 2 put something on the main page, but they are in no way obligated too do so.

Not to my knowledge. The AI UBB isn't that old a version, though. MacNN's is newer but the look is different only because of the UBB hacks that I've implemented here.

Ya I am very disappointed with the amount of downtime at the AppleInsider Forums. Of course we all have these forums.

I would be delighted to see some of you come over to The Mac Write Fourms http://www.macwrite.com/cgi-bin/Ultr...UltraBoard.cgi

The Mac Write Fourms include Who's on-line and Private messaging so you can send eachother private messgaes on the board. Oh and one macwrite.com on the left side of the front page is the latest 5 topics from different fourms (general discussions, OS X, etc). That is just be implemented this week.

Just my 2

hehe... AI Cast Aways

Yes, it is MOST inconsiderate for MacNN not to mention SOMETHING on the front page of either AI or MacNN itself.

Regarding the fact that this is all not realted to a server change, then I really really hope that we didnt lose years and months of speculation!!! And our posts, etc. At least Applenut won't have 5million psosts anymore Itll take hime a whole 2 months top get them back nonetheless.

I guess they updated the AI page just to keep us a little quiet

Hmm... gonna start a thread on the nVidia speculation
