A colleague of mine noticed that they were blocking Apple.com at work. Nothing from Apple would load. They did this because of iTunes (supposedly).

However, he found that if you go to ThinkDifferent.com, it's just like being there (thanks to multiple domains). Stupid IT department.

Why doesn't your IT department use a packet shaper to block specifically iTunes traffic?

These are the same guys who dedicated their lives to fixing PC problems. How smart can they be?

WTF? As if the major reason for visiting Apple's website was iTunes. *duh*

I hate IT dorks who are preoccupied with blocking sh1t and controlling people's surfing behaviour. Typical. Tsktsktsk…

Work hasn't blocked Apple.com, but all streaming media...so basically Apple.com is screwed for me anyway with all the QuickTime videos that load.

It's smarter to block specific kinds of traffic than domains. But why decide it's the IT department's call? Maybe the boss said "I don't want anyone to even be able to see a site where they might get a link to music software." IT departments don't work in a vacuum-they do what "the man" tells them.

Of course they could be dumber than dirt and thought this would do the trick. But whatever, blame the boss, not the stiffs that have to fix PCs all day long.

we can get to all apple stuff now, but a while back just the itunes store was blocked. This changed when we put a podcast on iTunes.
