At today's Taipei Computex, Philips Monitors showed the upcoming Two-in-One Monitor (Model 19DP6QJNS). The new monitor, scheduled to ship this fall, combines a pair of 19-inch IPS displays, providing a 32-inch display with little "seam" between the two.

Both screens tilt forward and backward up to 22.5 degrees to accommodate preferred viewing angles. Connectivity options include one DisplayPort and VGA input on the first display, and one VGA input and one MHL-enabled HDMI input on the second display, along with a two USB inputs on each display for convenience.

Specifics on the monitors, beyond just being IPS displays, are not yet known. Pricing is unavailable at this time.

Displays are measured on the diagonal. Putting two 19" displays together does not net a 38" display.

I'm aware that displays are measured on the diagonal. I don't have one of these on hand to check- so tell that to Philips!

I may try the math later, though.

Assuming they are true 19" and 4:3 displays, I get about 32.5 inch for the diagonal. Not counting the seam in the middle. Phillips offers multiple aspect ratios, so we really need specs to be sure.

Here's the calculations a few different ways: interestingly note which option creates the "largest" by screen area, versus by diagonal size:
19" 16:9 ratio (1080p most likely):
Screen area: 154.17 square inches.
Width: 16.56, height: 9.31 inches.
width-doubled: Width: 33.12, height: 9.31 inches.
= 34.4" diagonal size and 308.35 square inches screen area.

19" 4:3 ratio (1600x1200 for example):
Screen area: 173.28 square inches.
Width: 15.2, height: 11.4 inches.
width-doubled: Width: 30.4, height: 11.4 inches.
= 32.5" diagonal size and 346.56 square inches screen area.

19" 9:16 ratio (if they did portrait-mode on 2 1080p screens):
Screen area: 154.17 square inches.
Width: 9.31, height: 16.56 inches.
width-doubled: Width: 18.62, height: 16.56 inches.
= 24.9" diagonal size and 308.35 square inches screen area.

I have to ask why? Did they make too many 19" screens and this is a good way of getting rid of two at a time?

I typically operate with two 40" LED's next to each other and can not see the rationale behind this move?
