Ripping "300" with HandBrake

I am trying to rip my (purchased) copy of "300" to my iPod. I have been using HandBrake, but each time I do it the audio of the movie stops halfway through (where Leonidas meets Xerxes). The remainder of he movie is silent.
I have tried any number of combinations. I even ripped it first with MacTheRipper THEN converted it with HandBrake. All to no avail; same problem.
Help!

You'll be better off looking for help at the Handbrake forums at handbrake.m0k.org
I'm pretty sure that is an issue with copy protection though - MTR is not infallible like AnyDVD is for Windows and you might not have bypassed everything. Take a look at the forums at the above link.

Use MacTheRipper first, then convert the files via Handbrake.

Hmm, didn't see that at first.
I blame it on being hungover.

Well, ripping with the latest MTR (2.6.6) didn't work, either. MTR did it's job just fine, but HB cut the audio off again.
ETA: Just realized I have HB 0.8 something. Downloading 0.9 for another shot. Just wish each attempt didn't take 2 hours!

Eh, let me try again. You rip with MTR, you play the VIDEO_TS folder in VLC. Does this have the full audio or the drop-out?
Worse comes to worst, you can just encode the audio with another app (like MPEG StreamClip) and mux it in QTPro (or there are free routes if you're feeling chintzy)

My bet is still that audio is being lost by MTR. Have you ensured (by playing the ripped file in DVD player) that MTR is grabbing the audio?
If you haven't:
RIp the DVD
Eject the disc.
Open Dvd player>Choose File>Open DVD Media>[Dvd Name]>Video TS Folder> CHOOSE.
Hit play (an important step, it won't auto play)
Is there audio?
If no, there's you problem, you need MTR 3.0 r14D
If yes... Well, get Handbrake .9, see if that clears it up. I've never had audio lost BETWEEN MTR and HB though.... HB generally won't do that, so I'm betting an old version of MTR (2.6.6) on a new DVD (300) fails.

MTR ripped it just fine, audio and all. It was HB that wasn't getting it right.
However, I downloaded the newest HB and it worked, so off I go to the next movie.
Thanks for all the help!

You have to donate to the developer to get a DL link.
That said, there are other ways it's available, but I'm pretty sure I can't discuss that here.

Ok, thanks. I was kinda thinking that. Maybe I'll donate after I get my external hard-drive and start copying more of my dvds.

Nor should you - the folks over at MTR deserve a tip every now and again - MTR rocks.

I actually agree. The fact that a few people are cracking the encryption from the likes of Sony/Paramount, etc, is amazing. The fact that it's freeware is insane.
Let's be honest:
If you're using MTR to rip DVDs you don't own, just consider the amount of money you are saving not buying the dvds, and then give $10/15 to the person who made that possible.
I'm using MTR for stuff I actually DO own (3 year old + DVDs= FAIL), and still sent a few bucks.

I've been following the dropped audio issue on the Handbreak forums for awhile...it was a great day when they release the v.09

I really don't want to start an argument, but I don't want to leave that uncommented: That's the same logic that says it's perfectly fine to give the hawker $50 for the stolen iPod he's selling you; just consider the amount of money you are saving not buying the iPod new!
It's not the same thing, I realize - there is the Robin-Hood self-perception of not throwing money at the Big Bad Media Conglomerates - but the "Let's be honest" argument above is just complete immoral bullshit, plain and simple.

Meh, I won't argue...
I realy DO see the logic in what you're saying, but at the same time, meh, my point is, if you're stealing dvds, give up a FEW bucks to say thanks or whatever...
I still think it's crazy the developers of MTR are able to do it at all, I think it's awesome though... My dvds=I'll do what I want with them...
So, short version: If You use MTR, donate a few bucks.
