It looks like I'll be upgrading my service with Cingular. Part of the plan is I need to get a free phone to work with their network (I'm a former AT&T Wireless customer and cannot take advantage of rollover minutes and such until I get a new phone).

My options for a free phone are:

LG 1300
Motorola v180
Samsung x427
Nokia 6010

I wonder what you all think about these phones and which might provide for the best signals and ease of use (features are second importance to me). I have been using a Nokia for about 6 years now and am real fond of their ease of use and am very familiar with it.

Oh, if in case you care these are the two plans I am considering.

$49.99 National Plan, (56.99 for 7pm nights)
9pm nights
600 day (6am-7pm)
No roaming
Unlimited nights & weekend, unlimited mobile to mobile
Rollover Minutes

$59.99 (66.99 for 7pm nights)
900 minutes
same as above
Emergency Medicine & Urgent Care.

I just ordered a Nokia 6010 yesterday.
Seems to be a decent phone according to all the feedback on phonescoop.com.
Can't give you a handson report yet.

if you get a powerbook with bluetooth down the road, you'll like the isync-ing of address book - if you have a bluetooth phone.

I don't know that any of those handsets are bluetooth, but if you call that number I gave you and ask them to help you arrange the upgrade, maybe they can give you a credit for the difference.

Shoot, you could ask them for a sony ericsson t637 and be well off.
the siemens s66 would do you nicely as well. They aren't listed as being free, but ask anyway.
If this post is in the Lounge forum, it is likely to be my own opinion, and not representative of the position of MacNN.com.

have you tried going to other websites that offer the phones with contract for better prices? with many of them you will actually make money back after rebates. hope this helps.
