Hey All!

I want to upgrade the Hard Drive in a PM5400 (educational machine). I know that the logic board is similar to the 6400, so I know that a new IDE/ATA drive should work OK. What I need help on is which drive to purchase. Which ones will run cool, for example. I need to stay under $200(CAN).

I have researched a Quantum drive, but they have a breather hole, that will probably be covered up by the ATA signal cable, bad?

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated, as 1.6 GB is getting rapidly smaller!

I put a Western Digital Caviar drive into my Performa 5200 (same case design as the 5400), and it works great. The Western Digital drives are usually a bit more expensive, although some people swear by them (not me). If you live near a Fry's electronics, you can get a good quality (Fujitsu, Quantum, Maxtor, IBM) 10 to 13GB drive for about $120-130 (I was at Fry's tonight, and I remember looking at the prices). HD's on the net run for around the same prices. Check pricewatch.com for the lowest price.

Happy hunting!
