While I can't Brand this like Dakar I wanted to start up some discussion about the upcoming COD4 for mac and find out how well the PC version is (Ya I know... Old news).
Some stuff to start on...
I have a MBP 2.4Ghz, 256Mb 8600 Can anyone with the pc version tell me how well this runs COD4?
Is this going to be a port or are we going to be treated nicely?
Is COD4's online gaming cross platform/system? (xbox+ps3+pc? or Mac+PC or just Mac alone )

From what I know...
COD4 will play extremely well on your MacBook Pro.
It will be a port, but Aspyr has been really good with the Call of Duty series to us.
It should definitely be online against PC's, and will likely include the consoles as well.
Anyone know any better?

I don't think you'll be able to play against the consoles, xbox players only play against other xbox players, not sure about PS3.

This is also old news, but worth mentioning anyway in case you haven't read it already. If you're going to buy COD4, make sure that you expect to get lots of multiplayer gaming out of it. The campaign itself is so short it could almost be considered a ripoff. The gameplay and overall quality are very very good, just an extremely short single player experience.

Also, don't even bother with the single player if you don't like infinitely spawning enemies. Basically the entire SP campaign involves running from one place to the next, hoping you don't get killed, and shooting enemies is entirely pointless as they just come back.
It's funny, a lot of people loved the COD4 campaign and only complained that it was too short. I hated it. But I absolutely love the multiplayer and that's what has made the game worth it to me.

I had CoD2 on a PC, switched to a Mac and have been playing it virtually every night since end of Feb 2007 on my iMac. I installed a Windows partition using the Boot Camp Beta that was with Tiger and found that CoD2 ran better under Tiger than under XP - both on my iMac. I only ever played the CoD2 single player when I was off the internet for about a month during the summer. Pure pants after playing online for so long. I'm not even going to bother playing the single player of CoD4 after my fellow clan members told me how short it was. Plus multiplayer is what makes CoD what it is.
I've already decided to sell my iMac (2.16GHz C2D with 2G RAM and a 256M graphics card) but I reckon that under Tiger or Leopard CoD4 will still run pretty good with a 256M graphics card. I'm going MBPro due to space constraints but I'm going to get the 15" and drive a 22" flat screen - the 512M graphics should be fine from what I've learned on these forums.
Lets just hope CoD4 is as good as CoD2 on the Mac - which I'm still playing.

Heh, the only reason I branded the Halo thread was because a) I'm an asshole and b) I thought like two or three people would participate and that'd be it.
But good luck to your thread. I know a former Haloer, dustrho plays it non-stop, maybe he'll grace your thread with his presence.

CoD4 has fairly steep requirements (much higher than CoD2), but it scales well too as long as you turn down some settings. And it still looks good even when the graphics are scaled back.

I play COD4 on a 2.4 GHz Santa Rosa MacBook Pro with an nVidia GeForce 8600M GT w/ 256 MB VRAM at 1440 x 900 and get 50 to 90 fps. This is in XP via Boot Camp. Can't wait to try the OS X version; I hate dual booting just to play an occasional round of COD4.

I wonder what sort of fps the 512M 8600 will give for CoD4 (both on OSX and XP) - come on Barefeats, do a test !!!!!
This waiting around for CoD4 is KILLING ME !!

What I would do (If I had any kind of gaming Mac) is buy the game I wanted for PC first, and then when it came out for OS X a year later (lol) I would buy it then. Both to have one more game I wouldn't have to switch over to Windows for and so I'm still fully supporting Mac gaming.
Though I realize this is buying two copies of the same game, I wouldn't mind too much.

The worst past is that the system requirements and release date are still TBD.

Can't wait for this! I have it on the PS3 and it rocks. Can only imagine how it will be using a keyboard.

Should be able to play against PC users. I play against PC users now when I run Call of Duty 2. I doubt that you'll be able to play against XBox users though.
