Anyone know what's going on with iconfactory.com? Something is in the works, judging by the the little movie that now plays when you goto the site. Could be intersting. I love that site.

I dealt with one of the people responsible for that site 10 years ago and he was really odd and pushy. Left me with a bad feeling for that site ever since.

I like that little video they made with the W3C truck.

On a related note - WTF happened to resexcellence.com?

I think the guy who owned it gave up on it and gave it to the top poster of his forums or something.

I guess I understand. But couldn't they just leave the site up until they finish the redesign?

From what I can tell from that cartoon, someone from the wc3 showed up at iconfactory offering a suitcase full of money if they made their site wc3 compliant. The people of the iconfactory bitched and thought it was a horrible idea and went back inside.
Genius. You know who.

In any case, the story isn't over. Judging from the look of the rest of the page, that movie is the first in a series.

I'm forced to wonder, however, why they seem to have taken the whole site down. Why not leave the old site up while the redesign is in progress? If the redesign is already finished, then why not switch to it immediately? Either way, the movies could still be used as a temporary splash page to announce the new (or pending) changes.

One of the coolest things about the site besides the icons are the pixel animations. Good stuff!

That was great. The Transmit icon's cameo was also cool.

That wasn't Transmit, that was the red IF logo (if you're talking about the 2nd truck).

I'm talking about that truck, but take another look at it. The red IF logo isn't the only thing that makes it different from the other trucks.

Yeah, but I don' think that's the point -- but I can't say why since I promised not to.

Interesting but... how does icon factory make much money? I mean they seem to have staff and stuff but I can't imagine paying for what they sell... though maybe I'm just cheap.

Noticed how they made all of Windows XP's icons and other high profile projects? There's your answer

I don't get #4. What is up with that teleport thing?

Also, did they add a day? I thought for sure it was 5 days total.

I just found this at digg:

"The Icon Factory, one of the great icon and pixelated design agencies, has created a fantastic five part video describing their move to web standards. Hilarious and beautiful. They're on Day 3 of 5 as of this posting. Can't wait for the next installments."

Absolutely brilliant!

Does this mean they brought somebody in from Sweden to do their site? (I'm reffering to the part where they 'teleport' people in…)

Day 4 interpretation and findings:

The new iconfactory buttons will require 8 people to stand on your mouse before they react.

Iconfactory employees are actually modern-day Acolytes from Warcraft III. They are able to summon people from other areas (ie, "summoning is complete").

Panic really should get a real life truck like that and drive it around.

Anyone want to interpret day 5? Apple, something like an airport logo, a red truck. Then a witch with a jack-o-lantern, and pie charts. Something about pumpkin pie?

Well, every Halloween season, they have a "spooky" skin they put on the site. Maybe it has something to do with that.

Looks like the new site will be W3C standards compliant, built with CSS, not <br> and <table> tags improperly, have a better database, have some Ruby on Rails code involved in some way and have RSS feeds.
