I noticed it yesterday in a night of binge surfing. Now it doesn't glow, but it would be so useful to plug my earphones in the dark. Anybody seen it?

That would be the optical audio out of the MacBook. It uses a combined port for both analog and optical.

I do not own a MacBook yet so I cannot confirm this, but my guess would be to set Line Out to Optical Out. The problem is of course that this would disable Analog.
However, there may be a different way I am not aware of.

Which is why I removed BootCamp. I get annoyed easily by things like red laser lights shooting out of my laptop at night.

It's not a laser, it's just a red LED. You can't harm your eyes by looking at it.

Yeah, I just mentioned laser in jest. But it is hella annoying at night whether it is a LED or a frickin' laser.

The light can be shut off as it is documented by Apple. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.h...um=303572#faq1

The Digital Audio (S/PDIF) output LED is always on when running Windows XP. How do I turn it off?

The Digital Audio output can be manually disabled by opening the SigmaTel control panel and deselecting the Enable Digital Output checkbox in the Advanced tab.
