Samsung has postponed the release of its first smartphone running the Tizen operating system. The Samsung Z was originally intended to go on sale in Russia in the third quarter of this year, timed to coincide with a Tizen developer event in Moscow, but it has been delayed by the smartphone manufacturer with no exact date for when the company will try the launch again.

"The smartphone will appear on the Russian market later, when we can offer our users a fullest portfolio of applications," Samsung said in a statement to the Wall Street Journal. Developers at the event suggest the delay could be down to a lack of apps in the Tizen store, making it a potentially unattractive device at launch when compared to Android, iOS, and Windows Phone devices.

Announced in early June, the Samsung Z has a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED 720p display, a 2.3GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage. On the back is an 8-megapixel camera with a 2.1-megapixel front-facing version, along with a Galaxy S5-style heart rate sensor and fingerprint reader.

The Samsung Z is not the first device from Samsung running Tizen. The Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo smartwatches both use Tizen instead of Android Wear and Android, while a smart TV running on the software has also been demonstrated.
