I'm trying to move a client to a larger drive for his PC, but it's being so snarky about multiple drives, I thought "this would be easier with my Mac!" Is it possible to copy everything from one PC formatted hard drive to another and have it boot the PC, by moving them both into my Mac and copying them and putting the larger one back in the PC? I have room on my IDE bus to put both of them inside. Would it work? Has anyone tried this? Is there a Mac utility I could use?

I think if you used Caron Copy Cloner to copy the small PC drive to a larger PC drive, the new drive should boot fine in the PC.

Well, I tried it, and the upshot is: it won't work. Panther can read, but not write to NTFS formatted drives, which is what XP requires. Interestingly, CCC can deal with NTFS (for reading) , but didn't seem to accept an MS-DOS formatted drive (formatted by Disk Utility!).

Yes, Mac OS X can read NTFS volumes and no, it won't be able to write to them. However, Windows XP does _not_ require NTFS. Its only the suggested file system to be used over FAT32 (much like Apple recommends HFS+ over HFS).
