I’ve had this problem since I first started using Leopard in November, but after finding that 10.5.2 still hasn’t fixed it, I’d like to ask if anybody has any suggestions.

When I search for a file/folder in the Time Machine interface, it will only return results if I’m looking at one of the two most recent backups (well, three if you count “Now” along the Time Machine timeline thingie).

Example: If I go to the third bottom “line”, here’s what my Documents folder looks like:

Now, if I type in “gui” in the Search field, here’s what I get, as expected:

Now, if I go backwards one more backup to the fourth “line”, here’s the Documents folder (exactly the same as before):

Now, if I type in “gui”, no results:

And this continues all the way back and for anything I type. In other words, for this backup and any previous backup, when I type anything in the Search field, I get zero results.

Today's a slow day on MacNN, I'm sure someone will come along with help today though.

Personally, I've never even tried searching inside of Time Machine. I've only used TM once to recover a working copy of a CSS file I was working on after royally butchering the current version beyond repair. I will however give this a try tonight and see if I can replicate.
