hi all,
i just bought a second hand 12" 1.33ghz powerbook with leopard on it. it seems like after every other thing i do, i get an annoying keychain access pop-up asking me to enter my login password. i didn't even setup any passwords on this machine. i open up keychain access, edit > keychain list and try to delete the keychain from there but after a restart, it reappears. this is what keeps popping up:
it comes up when i'm in Mail too. how do i clear all these password prompts for good? (i don't have any install cd's btw.)
thanks!
m

You can try selecting Keychain First Aid from the Keychain Access menu, but it keeps coming up because your keychain keeps getting locked. Go to the Keychain Preferences -> First Aid and make sure Keep Login Keychain Unlocked is turned on.

Tried a repair and got this:
Checked login keychain
Checked password for ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain
Password for ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain is not the same as login password, so keychain can't be unlocked automatically
Login password could not be synchronized with keychain ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain (-128)
Unable to read settings for ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain
User differs on ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.security.plist, should be 501, owner is 0
Owner corrected on ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.security.plist
Checked default keychain
Checked keychain search list
Checked contents of ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain
Checked contents of /Library/Keychains/FileVaultMaster.keychain
Warning: some problems were not fixed
Repair failed

Replace it with a new one as long as you can login and export.

You can open up Keychain Access in your utilities folder and delete the login keychain. You may have to re-enter some passwords, but that should stop it from asking, I believe.

I'm pretty sure one can copy entires between keychains, so create a new keychain, copy over the important entries, then delete the old one and rename the new one login. I have never had to do that personally, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.
