How do I use the "Other" user on the login screen to log in to my iMac from my iBook? Apple says you can do it, but I don't know how.

PS-I don't mind low level mucking, including NetInfo and root Terminal

What do you mean "use"? If there is an "Other" user listed on the login you click it and can login as any user not already listed in the window. Such as root, or any network accounts. If you don't see "Other" listed already you can turn it on from the Login pane of System Preferences.

What I mean is, how do I set up my network to allow for logging in at one computer to a user on another computer.

Search these forums for "remote login". There are two threads which provide detailed instructions to do this.

Note however that these threads detail the process under 10.0.x and I am having trouble getting the process to work mounting NFS shares before login to do this properly under 10.1.

There is a preference for this in either the Users or Login control panel. It's just a check box called something like "Show 'Others' in users list"

Right, Graphiteman already clarified that he knew this but wanted to know how to setup network user account. You can either play with NetInfo Manager and NFS shares on OS X client for which there are already threads to search for as I said or you can use OS X Server which provides nice graphical tools for this process.

***Bump***

I'd like to use OS X Client.

Is there an updated tutorial for 10.1 somewhere on these forums or another web site?

PS-Could someone give me a link to the tutorials for 10.0? (I'm having a few problems with the search on these boards, maybe it's just me)

PPS-I'm also having some problems with a sticky "r" key on my keyboard...
