I keep my music (all of it classical) on my iPod, and I want it organized in as rational a way as possible (which is not wonderful, given the limited sorting possibilities allowed by iTunes, but I digress...)

When I mount the (new, video, 5G, 80 Gb) iPod, I can set the columns to those I actually want to see and choose to sort by composer. However, every time I restart or otherwise remount the iPod, the (stupid) default view has been restored, and I have to go through this all over again.

Further, while the iPod is mounted and playing, I keep getting a dialog saying that the iPod cannot be updated, because "the required file is in use." Naturally, it does not tell me what file is in question, so there's no way I can see to fix this. I don't actually want the iPod to be updated in any way apart from the browser view, and have tried to set things up (not) to do this.

I tried trashing the preferences file, but that had no effect on this problem. Can anyone point me to a solution, or at least give me a hint about what file may be "in use" that is screwing things up?

Thanks,
