Apparently, president-elect Musk has been strong-arming republican congresscritters to not pass any budget deal, period. He’s telling them to not pass any budget bill until after the inauguration. He has his little buddy Trump calling senators, too.
The government will shut down Friday at midnight unless a bill is passed and signed. So, president-elect Musk apparently wants the government to be shut-down for an entire month. What’s the worst that could happen?

That's incorrect - my coworkers told me that the evil, bad Democrats are trying to stuff the budget bill with all kinds of pork before Trump comes into office and whips everybody into shape and cleans up the country. The government shutdown isn't a big deal - all necessary government services will continue and everybody will be made whole with backpay if necessary.

Its funny how they think he's going to even try to do all the things he promised to do but didn't even try to do last time.

From Nick Fuentes’ doorbell cam.
Edit: I’m posting this less for the political implications and more for “dude has a fuckin’ crossbow”.

If he's there to steal someone's packages, he's doing it wrong. You need both hands free. Also, the shaded visor should be down. Everyone knows the cool people wear sunglasses at night as well as daytime. Plus to hide his face from the camera.
Even the porch cat isn't impressed.

Well, the kids actually managed to avert a shutdown for now. A three-month continuing resolution. So, we’ll be back at chimps-playing-checkers this March.

His biggest mistake was putting a Google Maps pin on the lawn behind him.

Actually I thought a little about this a while ago, but even better if you can take the time to get really good with it: a longbow. Hear me out.
Range is a little less than idea at about 300m, but in the right locale, it's the best sniper weapon you could choose. When you fire a rifle, the bang from the first shot scares the crap out of everyone. Your target is going to get surrounded and whisked away asap and everyone else is likely to be running around like headless chickens. You probably only get the one shot more often than not.
With a longbow, you can loose three or more shots before the first one even lands and when it does people are going to take a few seconds to realise whats going on, especially if you miss. So you can get a few shots off before your target gets obstructed.
No bang and no gun flash means you're much harder to spot as well. Gives you more time to escape. If you have a fire ready to go, you can burn your wooden bow and arrows so theres no fingerprints, DNA or ballistics to incriminate you with if they apprehend you later. The best they'll get is footage of you headed towards the spot you fired from with a bag that has something long enough to be a bow in it. Not gonna stand up in court.
A crossbow has some of these perks, but slower to reload, shorter range & harder to burn.

There are definitely advantages, but the big downsides are training, the strength required, and awkwardness (i.e., the assassin needs to stand… holding a giant bow).

@Laminar
My apologies for being difficult discussing the UHC killing.
Fundamentally, for better or worse, I don’t see this as a liberal versus conservative issue, so I’ve done a poor job fitting it into that framework, and being genuinely confused as to how I should be fitting it in.
That said, I don’t disagree with most of your observations.

Every morning, after I do my exercises, I sit on my couch and mindlessly watch YouTube videos while I ice my back. I use the YT app on our Roku. I don’t watch anything heavy or deep. Just some music reaction videos, maybe some art history, clips of comedians, a couple of podcaster I like, etc. And, of course, this being YT, there are now ads scattered throughout the viewing. Most can be skipped after 5 or 10 seconds, while the longer ones I just mute and ignore. Another day on YouTube.
So, today, I’m icing and viewing, and this ad comes on that really disturbed me. Now, usually, the ads are harmless ads for fast food, pharmaceuticals, phones, etc. This one, though...yikes.
Think the most aggressive anti-Biden attack ad you ever saw during the election. You know..all these out-of-context scenes of people doing horrible shit, or horrible shit happening to people, all slightly blurred to look like security cam footage, harsh colors, and an end-of-the-world voiceover declaring Biden to be the worst, most evil, person to ever walk the Earth. Now, imagine that ad, amped-up to 11. Maybe 12. And, now imagine it ending with the declaration that President Trump will sweep-away all that Biden did and bring about a new dawn for America. And you must support him in his crusade.
It was bonkers. And scary as fuck.

I seem to recall him saying something similar about Pennsylvania election, too.

The linked post loads for me, though I'll hit the paywall if I try to navigate anywhere. And I've never had a twitter or X account. Firefox on desktop.
Trump on Elon Musk: "He knows those computers better than anybody. All those computers. Those vote-counting computers. And we ended up winning Pennsylvania like in a landslide."
That was the post, plus an embedded YouTube vid (24 sec) presumably showing Trump saying those things. I didn't watch - can't stand listening to him.

As of 5+ hours ago, the clown show has begun. Did anyone watch the swearing-in? I'm mostly curious if he tried to suppress laughter during the oath part. It's not like he's going to defend the Constitution, for example. More like attacks every other Wednesday.

I did not watch. Apparently although Melania was holding the bible (bibles? 2 books) he did not place his hand on them during the oath.

I’m sure all the evangelicals will bend over backwards to excuse the antichristTrump not touching their holy book. In kind of the same way they swear he’s a good, christian man.

It's obvious - he didn't want to risk burning his hand.
Perhaps subego could get a T lookalike, and film a skit. Of what might have happened if a hand were on the bible. I can imagine lots of bleeping in the sound track, and hopping around, as he gets to different parts of the Oath. Or tries different hands. Maybe ends up sneaking someone else's hand onto the bible, in order to finish.
Or reveal this was the prequel they tried behind the curtain, followed by the actual swearing-in footage. Explaining the no-bible touching.

It feels a bit like the US is cooked.
Trump now has total control of the media which gives him three years to program you all into voting him in for life. The only bright side being I can't see him living too much longer.

Republicans have repeatedly openly or implicitly threatened journalists, and they have legitimised political terrorism (and signalled that it would not be punished), as long as it comes from the right.
And they are keeping lists.
Have you noticed how a certain bishop has been over and over called „brave“ and „fearless“ for what?, openly citing the Bible and quoting Jesus AT A CHURCH SERVICE?

I’m not sure if you’re being sarcastic. The bishop directly addressed Trump.
I’ll get into the bravery, but want to make sure we’re starting on the same page.

She wouldn't need to be brave if there weren't repercussions to fear for saying such things. As if right now there aren't people clamoring for her to be deported, fired, or worse... luckily her church, college, etc are standing behind her.
The people who call themselves christian like to pick and choose which actual tenets of christianity they care about. Kindness isn't one of them.

Would the repercussions be for what she said, or the context in which they were said?

It should not be considered risky for a minister to encourage kindness, no matter who the audience is.
Trumplethinskin makes everything into a vendetta.

There's now a resolution in congress to officially censure this minister for using her position "politically". Probably won't have many actual repercussions since her church stands by her, but yet somebody used government resources to create this just because trump's feefees were hurt.

That’s… a surprisingly decent joke.

In other news, members of Congress are blocked from entering the Department of Education.
In reaction to complaints, Musk tweets "No such department exists in the federal government".
