This sums it up nicely:
"Using the same faux stone seen in the finest wind-swept trailerparks, these new Rock Docks add just a touch of countertop class to your desk or porch-front washing machine or whatever. I mean, seriously, it's not an awful idea. All the fruits at Gawker were like, "Wow, want one," when I mentioned it, then we all sort of stood around the laptop and went "Oh. Ugh." For $80 I want something like makes the iPod look like a stately jewel upon a timeless daisnot something that looks like it was gnawed by a gaggle of bucktoothed hillbillies at a roadside stand in Branson (my people, by the way, so I'm speaking from my banjo-plucking heart here)."

i think just the iPod by itself (4th generation) is ugly by itself. just saw one in person at the apple store, that click wheel has the ugliest color in the world.
but that thing is pretty cheesey.

Disagree. Screams designed by IKEA, made in China, sold by IKEA.

It appears the product selection at the NJ IKEA is tailored to suit the 'Made in USA' taste
Here it would be a bright green plastic blob or painted blue wood or something.

I have two black socks on that you can have for half that
But seriously... the rick kids will love it. After blowing $599 on an iPod Photo... another $30 is a drop in the bucket.

I don't think that it's ugly. It is a nice family type of item.

You're talking nonsense. IKEA, for all their faults, actually support half decent designers. While the quality especially of their cheaper stuff tends to be questionable the design normally isn't.

I was almost going to buy that one last week, but I ordered the regular one instead, after I saw the back of the U2 ipod, which is butt ugly. I don't want somebody's signature on my iPod. I'd rather have engraved it with my own phrase.
I bet Apple is gonna make a crapload of various iPods soon. (Think flower power imacs etc.). The camouflage iPod will be cool, perhaps.

I hope you're kidding. They opened up a shop in VA a couple years ago. I wasn't impressed. But at least you get a cardboard TV with every media center.
And the stuff in the catalog is twice as fugly.

I just read the site for the wood docks and now I feel bad for them. Yeah it's not the most complementary iPod accessory ever, but they're trying hard...i guess.
Seems like good people, good luck to them. [/wdloveness]
