Can't take it? When have I said otherwise? You are projecting again fanboy.

I could care less about broadband usage.

But your comparative obsession says a lot.

This thread was derailed with the very first post. This has got to be a record.

Come to think of it, I question the real rationale of posting this in the first place.

Oh and for broadband, I know the province of Alberta in canada has fiber optic lines to EVERY community in the province no matter how remote. Know any US states that can boast the same claim?

The Web is just a part of the Internet. The Internet was designed and funded by ARPA, a US gov't defense agency.

A faster net connection probably wouldn't help somebody get laid (especially if they were a dork to begin with), but I'm sure it would help certain dorks download their porn faster.

This is a stupid argument, obviously it's not going to be easy for a country as large as the US to catch up with pint sized (high density) places like japan and various parts of Europe, despite that it happens.

In areas where the population density is adequate, technologies tend to come and go just as fast (if not faster) than they would in any other country. Out here I can get a 6mbit line if I have the money to waste, and up in sac you can get a damn 10mbit line!

Laying fiber or setting up a sattelite relay across what is basically uninhabited territory is a lot easier than having to wire up a country's worth of major metropolitan areas.

It is not through the use of satellites. Now explain how they set up cell phone access through towers for 94% of the country.

You are saying the only way Canada accomplished this is by using satellites because it is easier.

I am telling you it is not through satellites and as you know DSL lines have a 4-6km limit before they need to hit a switching station. Yet they did did it 5 years ago.

Also Canada managed to set up Cell Towers to cover 94% of the country.

What you are saying is that it is easier for us and if they US did it then it would be impressive, if anyone else did it they are cheating and have it easier because they are smaller and less dense..

I did say "laying fiber or satellite relays", so I was wrong with one of the statements, the other must still be true due to logic and the fact you haven't jumped on it. If I'm wrong about the relay theory, so be it, I won't drag on about it.

I already know (as you stated) that DSL lines are limited to range of about 20000ft before the signal deteriorates. However, do you really think they are laying down "DSL lines" cross country? Hell no they aren't, it is way past unfeasible. But, as I said above, they are more than likely laying down fiber optic (that is, using LIGHT) to make up for the long distances.

Cheating? What the hell are you talking about? I haven't at all put down Canada for planning and assembling what is fairly well known as one hell of a network. For the United States to do it is a very different story. Why? BECAUSE OUR ENTIRE COUNTRY'S STRUCTURE IS OLD AS DIRT! So in fact, that is exactly what I'm saying. I'm really confused as to where the arguing point comes from. But I really think you made this thread only to pick a fight.

Wow, what happened here? Major derailment, rerailment, and subsequent derailment.

PacHead I never said canadians were a race, or that you were racist towards them. More reading, less knee-jerking.

Canada has more larger, faster, and arguably cheaper high-speed internet access. GET OVER IT. Just because you all have to defend the US at every chance doesn't deny the facts. You don't see us whining because our army would be decimated if you guys so much as looked at us.

The way this thread has gone you'd think we stole your favorite pacifier.

actually, Canada is covering the area with line of site microwave for most of the data/voice traffic in rural areas. very effective and cheaper than most solutions. DSL is simply the 'last connection' from the local CO to your home. from CO to CO, it is fiber and microwave.

Ya so, laying fiber optic is even more expensive then using regular phone lines.

Since most of the US has a phone line or cable TV it should be a snap to get everyone connected.

It has more to do with certain people attacking the US every chance they get, and manipulating stuff.

The canadian starwars geek was looking for his usual flame thread, which is obvious by his manipulating the title of his source:

How it went from "High-Speed internet access in the US doubles" to "US behind in broadband" is beyond me.

Next time I find some article about Canada stating for example: "Canadian economic growth strong in fourth quarter", I will be sure to start a thread stating "Canada still lags behind with their miserable socialist economy and unemploymment compared to other civilized countries of the world" or something similiar.

This thread is nothing but a "hey guys, my penis is bigger than your penis thread. "

Is that 94% of the population? Or 94% of the area? I highly doubt that it's the latter. Doesn't 80+% of the Canadian population live within 200KM of the US?

Someone want to explain to me why the admins haven't caught onto Star Wars Guy's subtle, anti-American; anti-conservative; and anti-religion trolling yet?

And for that matter, why haven't more of his handles been banned? Most of his insults are personal and aren't subtle, after all.

You'd think the time he signed tinrib up for a gay porn mailing list would have been enough to get his IP banned.

this thread is so funny yet so disappointing at the same time. some times, when i feel really bad, i read MacNN for SWG's posts about how much canada or whatever is better than the US or how gay people should rule the earth or whatever, and PacHead's posts about how much the US is awesome or how much he hates michael moore but can't stop talking about him or whatever he's trying to say. it always seems to make me feel good for some reason.
