iGot (sorry ) this idea from macrophyllum's post in another thread. If you wanna play, go to Bandwidth Place Speed Test on your iPhone, run the test and post your results.

Ideally, post both your EDGE data and your wifi speeds. It will be interesting to see how these differ in different parts of the country.

stting in the newark airport.

147kps connection
17.8kps download speed
48 seconds download time
Mediocre

Wifi is not free here in the airport, so I can't give you a wifi speed test. When I get back to Tampa I'll run the test again at home with both edge and wifi.

Wow, so my EDGE speeds were significantly slower than everyone else's.

I just re-ran the test and here are the new results.

I guess with EDGE, YMMV.

Dang. Even on my 2nd go-round, my EDGE speed is the slowest here. Any other Phoenecians want to chime in with your EDGE speeds here in the Valley?

I tested my speed at iPhone Network Test for EDGE and I just got 223kbps. I'm in N. Scottsdale. I've been consistently getting between: 144-255kpbs.

My previous phone was a Treo 755p which used EVDO which was getting 350kpbs+ and to be honest, I don't notice a huge difference (palm browser rendered really slow). EDGE for me works pretty well. Only thing I miss is the tethering to a laptop feature.

I guess AT&Tingular has invested more heavily in your part of town. I just did the iPhone Network Test and got 45, then 61 Kbps. Of course, I'm showing 2 bars right now in Goodyear.

Thanks for your posts. My iPhone was showing very slow speeds until I did Reset Network Settings. It unclogged my WiFi but I guess my Edge is slowest in the nation.

Sarasota, FL
Home - Verizon FIOS runing at 6.1 megabit/sec (slower one)

iPhone WiFi:
Communications 3.2 megabits per second
Storage 394 kilobytes per second
1MB file download 2.6 seconds
Subjective rating Awesome

iPhone EDGE:
Communications 77.1 kilobits per second
Storage 9.4 kilobytes per second
1MB file download 1.8 minutes
Subjective rating Slow

At work we I have seen 4.9 megabits/sec on my computer and 2.4 on iPhone WiFi.
Downtown Sarasota is covered by free WiMax WiFi and they want to extend it for the entire county but Verizon and Concast are fighting them to death. So the whole project is on hold. Go figure...

We have been averaging 160 to 255.
This is based off of results from me and 3 friends in different areas for work and were we live.
