Hello, I have this problem running Word on my MacBook. Everytime I open Word and use it for like a couple of minutes, the fan went on. But as I switch the window to another application, it went off. And this only happened to me just today. Never happen before. I'm running Leopard with 2GB. I hesitate to use Word in this case in the library because of the noise it makes. Anything I can do to fix it? Or maybe this is a problem with Leopard? Because as far as I know, this never happen when I use Tiger. Thanks for any help.

p.s: the Word become sluggish as soon as the fan went on. But the OS itself is fine. By sluggish I mean, if I scroll down/up it will have a couple of second delay. Same thing with highlighting things up. I tried to look into the activity monitor, but since I'm kinda new to Mac OS X. I don't know what to look.

Turn off "Live Word Count" in MS Word (somewhere under Preferences). Presuming you're using Word 2004, this feature is known to have been really slow on PPC-based Macs and even worse on the Intel machines since it has to go through Rosetta.

If that doesn't seem to solve your problem, use Activity Monitor to see which process is using the highest % of CPU and report back. Something else may be causing your CPU to crank up to max, which will generate heat and cause the fan to come on.
